So, Chloe *was* litter box trained when we got her. She did so well for the first 2 weeks we got her, but this past week, she’s been going all over her cage and she’s peed three times outside her cage!!!  It’s so frustrating and I think I’ve done something wrong. I don’t know why she’s doing this. The first couple times she’s peed outside, I thought maybe it was just a fluke, but now, it’s definitely something. I don’t know why she’s reverting away from using her litter box. She LOVES it and doesn’t move away from it. She even sits on it when she’s mad at me or is scared. Her box is in her cage and we move it outside when she’s out in the house. I’m so sad because maybe I’ve scared her or maybe I’m not being a good mommy. When I see her peeing outside her cage, I would say, “no” and move/scoot her toward her litter box. She’s so stubborn though and just kept peeing!

I know what you’re thinking. Maybe she’s scared. But honestly, she doesn’t seem this way. She binkies around all over the house and chases my cat like she wants to play…she’s quite a brave and social bunny! She hops onto my lap and lets me pet her for up to 20 minutes. It’s been so inconsistent that I’m not sure what to think of her behavior anymore.

Please share with me your experience. I’m so new to this bunny thing that I’m worried I might be doing something wrong to cause her to be this way!

P.S. she’s 3 years old, WAS litter trained, and is already neutered. Her pee looks orangish and her poops are hard little, round pellets. She’s a mini lop. I’ve tried putting some hay into her litter box. She does use it, but not consistently!

Hmm, Im stumped, but I don’t think she is scared. Did you get any new litter lately? Does she dislike the smell? Have there been any changes in her environment to cause her to feel less secure and cause her to territorially mark? I don’t know, maybe someone else has an idea.

I would take her to the vet and see if she has a UTI. It seems like they are a common culprit when a litter trained bun suddenly starts going all over.

Under lying health issue can be the culprit and another one to consider is your cat! Do you think the cat has entered (or peed in) and area Chloe regards as hers? Binky Bunny has mentioned that an incident with the cat was often behind the loss of litter habits with her bunnies. I wonder if the cat’s own hormones can effect a bunnies behaviour? Regardless, you may have to restrict Chloes space and retrain her.

Thanks for your input. I haven’t restricted her yet, but just follow her wherever she goes. YES, it is very tiring. It’s just that she’s so happy binkying all over the house I don’t have the heart to keep her from running around. She’s not peeing anymore, but is still pooping all over her cage. I think if this doesn’t stop, I’ll bring her to the vet by the end of the week.
