So i recently just switched to using timothy hay instead of litter. Would this bother the bun?

While it can be helpful to put some hay in the litter box, I wouldn’t actually recommend it.
It doesn’t have the absorbancy and odor control of litter, and it can be a bit difficult to keep the fresh hay from the soiled.
You may have some trouble with it.

I agree. Maybe try a few layers of newspaper, as long as the ink isn’t harmful (some newspapers use ink that’s bun friendly), then add hay on the side. Everyone likes a snack.

i use a small layer of kitty litter(for odor absorbency), sprinkle baking soda over it, and add a thin layer of hay on top. this works really well with my bun. all the odors are absorbed and he gets to snack on hay.

If you use kitty litter you should be very careful to make sure your bunny is not ingesting any- especially stay away from the clumping kitty litter as it can cause GI blockage.  Also I would caution against the use of baking soda- bunnies have very furry feet and are likely to end up ingesting some baking soda when they groom- and they don’t need the extra sodium, etc that is in baking soda.

he never eats kitty litter! i would never clumping because i know the dangers. he doesn’t step on the baking soda-its completely covered up with hay.
