I mean ‘messy’ from a human perspective of course. The rabbits must think it’s beautiful. Every evening my bunny condo is neat and every morning it looks like this. You all know it…. but post pictures please.
Mine looks just like that, just replace the newspaper with hay. It takes a week to get that way though. Apparently my rabbits have slowed down.
I am pretty sure it’s only Mops who shreds like that and it only takes him one night. They hay stays nicely in one spot until eaten up… I admit though that the newspaper is just there for that reason, to keep them busy. They went from free-range to life within the limits of a condo so I wanted to prevent them from getting bored.
Yup, I know what you mean. I had newspaper like that at one point, but when I built my new condo and moved Hubble into it (he had always been in a large Superpet cage) he started to pee on the newspaper. He never pees on his hay though so it made sense to use that as the digging toy. Plus with the way I built my new condo means that nothing gets out either! *does happy dance* Nova might miss the paper a little bit, but she has a phone book to tear up when she wants to. Mine doesn’t really hold a candle to yours though.
Here is Nova’s side:
Hubble’s side:
How did you build yours so nothing gets out? I can see a little in the photos but what kind of panels did you use?
Those panels in the back are just against the wall and to keep them from chewing the thing that keeps everything it. Plus they were all I had at the time. I took laminate flooring and bent it up to create a sort of giant pan. I can’t actually move it, the piece is over 10ft long. I’ll go get a better picture of it, but here is a front view of the entire cage.
oh, I remember this photo! I really like your glass bottles. don’t your rabbits nibble on your clothes’ sleeves?? I guess, they can’t reach. great use of space. My closet is too small unfortunately.
Haha!! They all look so smugly satisfied!
This is what happened when Remy discovered the paper towels…
WHEN BUNNIES ATTACK!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately only Nova has a glass one right now. One for Hubble is on my wish list though! For my set up they are sooooo much easier to use. I could even hang them on the inside of I needed to do so. I had crocks for a while, but Nova is a nervous rabbit so she is always shedding just enough to make the water yucky within a few hours. It does look like that one sleeve is hanging low, but she has never shown an interest. I did have to move all my dresses out of my room though. I started by putting a superpet cage in the closet, and then I realized that the mess was getting all over the closet anyways, so I might as well just give her the space to enjoy!
This was her old cage. Notice how the laminate is on the inside. She chewed that almost to the ground!
I did like having the doors on this one. I plan on making my current one much more stable though now that I’m feeling better so I think I might be able to have doors again. They will probably swing in though, instead of out to protect the laminate when I’m not watching.
Current cage (excuse the mess!):

Oh wow Lizzie! I’ve always wanted to sacrifice a toilet paper roll, but now I know why I shouldn’t…
Oh, wow! Remy!!! Lizzy, is he still free-range 24/7?
Kyt: thanks for showing so much detail, I am always searching for access ideas to condos. I opted for a huge top opening. I cannot take a chance of my rabbits getting out when I’m not watching.
I’m still using both, bottle and crock because mine drink more from a crock but it gets spilled sometimes so I don’t have a large amount of water in it. The bottle is more a back-up when they run dry.
Lizzie that reminds me of a similar incident here, I swear they did this in the amount of time it toke me to put on a load of laudry and fold another load. My dogs, not buns, but it was through the entire house. ![]()

This just shows how dedicated they were, how in the world do you do that on stairs?!

I don’t have a picture at the moment since I just got done cleaning but… Pacey keeps his pen relatively clean aside from a stray piece of hay or cardboard. Marshmallow on the other hand is my little trouble maker lol her pen is usually hay, torn up cardboard, newspaper everywhere and she is being a little brat because I cleaned her pen and litterbox so there is little bunny surprises all over the lino for me to clean up every night![]()
Goodness what a mess. I must be blessed with good bunnies or something. Well… maybe not. I don’t leave my books where buns can get them. If I did they would probably look like that newspaper mess.
Bunnytowne, everybun has the potential of making that mess…given the opportunity
!!
Kyt: I just noticed something other that is cool. You use an empty Kleenex box as a hay dispenser!
Yes their potential to make a mess. Mine do make a mess but not like these pics. Well so far anyways. Like I said though if they could get to my books yep.
I am reading and Cotton jumps on me and pulls the book down to his level so he can comfortably chew them. I let him chew a little bit then stop him. These are library books.
Also my book Touched By A Bunny really did get touched by a bunny. Sir Cotton left his signature on the cover.
I love the messy bunny pics by the way.
You know… I used to put newspaper in the bottom of Cottons litterbox when I first got him. He did chew on it and pull it out and make a mess. So I quit using newspaper to line his pan.
And the remote controls. I got a new one mailed to me from cable co and sent the old one back. Missing a few buttons.
Haha!
Yep, he’s still free 24/7. That little incident happened before he got neutered when he was going through a bit of a destructive phase… he doesn’t do that anymore, thank goodness!!
I did use them for a long time, and am considering doing so again for Nova since she has peed in her hay box (just once or twice, so we’ll see when I replace it). The bigger boxes made my life so much easier when I wasn’t feel so good and couldn’t give them fresh hay every day. The tissue boxes do make an excellent place to put ‘treat’ hays daily, and I plan on putting one on each side back in soon. Putting hay in there does make it easier to tell if they are eating it too, whereas the boxes look pretty much the same from day to day due to the large amount. The boxes can last for a long time too once you set them up right. I should put a walkthrough on what I know about the ‘art of tissue box hay racks’. Then maybe people can help come up with even better ways of building them!
I’m hopping I can post pics 2morrow thats when I’m going to my dads. I was supposed to go today but that changed.I do have a story though…..
About a month after I got Flopsy he was laying in the bathroom when I went to take a shower. I didn’t want to move him becouse he looked really comfy so I left him where he was. After I was done I noticed he managed to chew up some of my tampons & some toliet-paper. He did it when I was in the shower!!! I guess he thought it would be really sneaky. It’s funny now that I look back. He also chewed on my Bio textbook & homework one time. That was hard to explain to the teacher ” A bunny ate my homework” ![]()
My house is my rabbits habitat and there is just too many messy areas to choose from!
I also like to see setups other people have, to try improve my own. The hay containers are my current challenge. Tissue box is cool – I saw a box shape one this week, like tissue box shape but had upside down T shape cutout to access hay. Sticking hay in end of cardboard works best for me but they keep peeing in it!!!!!!!!!
Last night I went to investigate when I heard some faint ruffle-ruffle noises from downstairs… Who was really the author of this paper mess? It wasn’t Mops at all! ![]()
This video is poorly lit, it was the night shift.
so Lint is tearing up paper, it seems, as part of a break-out plan. ![]()
You wouldn’t believe the mess Mufasa and Lily make. I wish I had a camera, but the dogs help. That is the only cage that they can get their little legs through to try and get the buns food. The dog’s whole goal is to get the buns veggies. The dogs love the veggies.
So hay and Carefresh is all over the pen. Makes me so mad.![]()
“Hurricane” is also a nice name for a bun…
