Last week, I told you about Holly’s first visit.  This one was a good productive visit in my opinion. Last week, the vet drew out some of the yucky stuff out of her neck. (I’m trying not to be gross.)  I might of mentioned that in process, Holly jumped and this actually worried the vet. They observed her a little longer than they might of normally. Anyway, that actually was kind of a good thing. The last couple of days that area has been leaking. I was worried about this on several counts. One safety for us especially Zach, and since she has been keeping the area clean as she can and injesting the stuff her own safety.  Today the vet said it was actually good that was open. It allows us to flush it and to get as much of the infection out as we can. She asked me if I was comfortable with doing that at home. I said yes.  So now in addition to giving her antibiotics two times a day, I also have to flush it out.  Holly is still doing the normal stuff bunnies do eating, pooping, drinking, and all that. I am keeping her in her enclosure though.  I feel bad for not letting her out, but I can’t risk it with the baby. The vet said we were doing the right thing there.  She said to keep the baby away from the bunny’s area and where she’ll be.  No problem there for now anyway.

I feel better this week than I did last.  She did tell me that she didn’t know how this would turn out.  As my hubby keeps saying take it one day at a time.  I feel that we are doing the best we can with what we can.

        Thanks guys for your advice.

I can’t remember names but the one who is going through a similar situation, thank you. Kral something.

I’m not very popluar with Holly right now, and I miss the way life was just a few weeks ago. It’s time to get past that and accept what is now. I’m not writing her off. I’m just proceeding with caution.

I’m glad it’s working out for you and Holly. The bunnies do put you on a guilt trip while you have to treat them, but they get over it, eventually. Simba was mad at me for quite a while, but once he realized that we weren’t going to catch him every night for the treatment he relaxed and went back to his normal spoiled self.

The upside is when I DO have to catch him for something now, he no longer whimpers, cries and generally freak out. He just gives me a dirty look and goes pretty limp…lol

It’s important to clean out as much of the pus as you can each time, using peroxide really thinned it out so it drained well.

I think a rabbit abscess is the most foul smell in the world. 5 vet techs were leaning over Simba as the vet cut it open and 2 almost fainted and had to leave the room. It will make you gag ;-(

Kathy (kral is my last name and my first office at work was in a small closet, they stuck a sign on the door that said “kralspace” as in crawlspace…lol

I’m glad the 2nd visit was better and that Kralspace’s advice is helping! It’s good to have support from real people who have gone through the same problems to help offer advice.

Healing vibes to Holly and hugs to you.

I am glad to hear that things are going as well as can be expected.  Even though Holly might be a little angry with you now- often pets are able to sense when we are trying to help them- so maybe it will strengthen your bond with her in the future.
