Ever since Flopsy’s ” Great Escape”, his been acting weird. He lunges at my hand & tries to bite me when I pet him or pick him up.His never done this before. I also think his getting an eye infection, his eyes are pinkish & his poop is runny. I’m going to make him a vet appointment tomorrow for that. But I need help with his behavior, I’m not sure if his doing it becouse he dosn’t feel good or for something else.

I say no loudly when he does it but that dosn’t help. Do I spray him with water? I hate the thought of punishing him though if his doing it becouse his sick.

Actually, I think it probably belongs here. Have the health side of things checked first then if no clues there, then look at behavior. To me, the vet visit should be the first step so it’s great you have that lined up.

Took him to the vet this morning & they did blood work & that came back fine. They checked out his eyes & it was an eye infection so they gave me some medicine for that ( which he likes lol). For his poopy butt they said I need to switch his hay so I need some advice on what kind to buy. Right now I just buy bales of Timonthy hay at the local feed store. I don’t have a credit card ( Im only 16 I’m about to be 17) but my dad said if I give him the cash he would order hay online for me. So which is the best kind?

His behavior has gotten better, so I guess he was just acting weird becouse he was sick. Poor guy. That medicine seem’s to be helping a lot

Not sure why you need to switch his hay if he’s eating timothy.

What type of pellets are you feeding him?

Oxbow the Organic kind. It’s the only kind he likes & even then he dosn’t eat a lot of it. Maybe thats why?

Well, normally it’s the pellets or greens that can cause a poopy butt not the hay.

It sounds like he needs to eat more hay.

                    Do you measure his pellets?
What kind of vegetables are you feeding him?

Yeap I measure his pellets. He gets lettuce every day ( not iceburg), green beans, sometimes a little piece of carrot or banna. He also gets mixed greens every day. He has unlimted hay.
Maybe I should buy the hay from somwhere else & see if that helps?

While he has the diarrhea I would not give him any fresh greens but make him eat just timothy hay and add a little oat bran to his oxbow pellets. I would cut out the green beans completely from his diet.

How much pellets do you give him?

Kay I’ll cut out the green beans. Umm I give him about 1/3 a cup in the morning & at night. Is that to much?

I would just give him a 1/3 cup a day (maybe half in the morning and half at night). Also I don’t recommend the oat bran stuff – this is full of carbs which can also cause poopy butt. Better to stick to the basics. He probably won’t be happy about the pellets being cut back but it might help slim him down as well.

Is he a good hay eater?

I was thinking of feeding a small quantity of pure oat bran, replacing some of the pellets (Oxbow organics e.g. contain starches in the form of barley) while the rabbit is suffering from the diarrhea. Oat bran is lower in carbs than actual oats, plus much of the carb content in oat bran is soluble fibre. Both rolled oats and its bran have been used in small quantity, in combination with hay, to cure diarrhea in rabbits. My mini rex came to me with diarrhea and my vet suggested to feed just hay, oats or oat bran and salt from a wheel for five days after we had first tried leaving out different green items, and switching pellets. It did the trick.
You can easily fatten up a bunny by giving grains, or overfeed in starches but the combination of oats and hay has a place in the nutrition of a sick rabbit; mostly because they are not as processed as even the finest pellet.

Kay I’ll cut down on the pellets. I’ll check on the oat brain. Where can I buy it? He seem’s like his feeling better, his still has a little runny poop but not as much. He hasn’t lunged at my hand today either

Sassy, if he’s already on the mend, maybe he just ate too much greens which are high in water.
Monitor his progress, though. I did the oats and hay when my bun wouldn’t improve with anything else tried.
I am wondering, too, if Flopsy got a little stressed out from his roaming adventure. some animals are sensitive that way, you know, a little stress can upset their tums. So glad he is getting better! This rabbit has kept you on your toes!

Yeah that might be why. I know! His so curious about life lol. He tries to get into everything, earlier today he jumped on the cat! It’s a good thing Velvet likes him. I have a video of him & my best friend, he was soaking up the attention, I have sooooooo many pics & videos of him. I wish I could put them on here.
I can’t resize them on my labtop. I’m going to my dad’s tomorrow though so I’m going to try to do it on his.
