I know there are different types of hay out there, and we have tried a few but Indy is so picky! Anyone else have this problem? He wil only eat regular Timothy Hay, Ibought Western Timothy Hay and he won’t touch it! We had tried another one but I can’t remember what it was, just for variety. He did however like the hay sample that came with the latest binkybunny order- whatever that was he was in heaven! I guess its not a big deal that he won’t eat anything else now and he’s started eating veggies and still eats his pellets, I just wanted to be nice to him and have variety! Silly bun!

Also, almost positive he is a New Zelander and hes going to get neutered next week! I hope it goes better than last time, I’m going to be a wreck all day but I’m stuck at work and Dad will have to pick him up =/

I think timothy hay and western timothy hay are the same grasses. However there are different cuttings and sometimes hay grown in different parts of the country could be different due to many factors.

The first cutting is usually more stalky and has more seed heads than the second which is softer and shorter and the third cutting which is softer and shorter still.

I know Oxbow does not distinguish between 1st and 2nd cutting for their hay and it may be a mix.

American Pet Diner has a 2nd cutting and KMS Hayloft sometimes has 3rd cutting (in limited quantities).

The BinkyBunny hays are great quality – you might want to find out what the sample was…I think she know carries APD 2nd cutting and also a new Teff or Love hay.

Mostly my rabbits always like the 2nd cut Timothy from American Pet Diner but I have one pair of rabbits that will eat just about any hay and are happy.

Yea I thought I would be ok with the Kaytee “Western” especially since it was all I could find in the store that day. It seemed crunchy enough for him, so I dont know what his issue with it is. Luckily the other store had some Kaytee Timothy in stock the other day. My mom’s bun is picky too, he would not do well with 2nd/3rd cuts.

I think it was Love Hay, I threw out the little card that came with it because I assumed he wasn’t going to want it! You are kinda lucky they will eat anything, I don’t want to buy different hays only to find out he wont eat it… such a waste!
