Some of you may remember me talking about an animal rights rally I went to some months ago. It was sparked by the outrage of animal lovers when a man got a slap on the wrist for killing 5 pomeranian dogs with a hammer because he didn’t want them to go to the spca when he could no longer care for them. Two women in my city started a petition and organized a rally to pass a bill for stricter animal abuse penalties. The petitions were at businesses all over the city and I got a bunch of signatures at the airport where my Mom works.
Just got the news: It passed! This is what I was e-mailed about the new law: Under the new law passed today fines and penalties will increase from a current maximum of $570 to a maximum of $100,000 and up to 18 months in jail, making it the highest in Canada.
Wahoo!!!! I’m so proud of my province for speaking up! The highest in Canada! I hope the other provinces quickly follow suit and I hope the judges in the future really make use of this and punish abusers to the full extent of the law.
You CAN make a difference for animals!!! You CAN be there voice. This is proof.
