i saw her eat her magenta what ever its called…. but then 4 hours later she pee’d blood is this normal after birth??

how do i know if the mother fed them i cant check their bellies becuz i dont want the mother thinking its not her kid becuz it dont smell like her no more….

i think she sometimes steps on them….

they are all bunched together and they are all moving around can they breathe well all ontop of each other?

this mother has had babies before like 2-3 months ago is she going to be ok?

this was not intentional breeding the male rabbit hopped out his play area and mounted the loose female rabbit that was on the kitchen……

        please help

oh and how far should humans be away from the mother/bunnies…becuz my friend has it in his small bedroom

Pregnancy/Babies – Uh Oh, Surprise Litter?:

I don’t know a lot about this topic, but as I understand, it’s okay for her to touch the bunnies briefly to make sure their bellies are full and they are all still alive.  Round bellies is what you’ll be looking for to be sure they are being fed.  You probably will not see them eat as mom is going to feed them in the early morning, late evening.  It’s possible that not all may survive, 6 babies is a pretty big litter, but if one or two do not make it, it isn’t anyone’s fault.  Just nature taking its course.

I have to ask, why was there a second accidental litter in only 2-3 months?  Is there a reason her rabbits aren’t altered?  Is she aware of the high risk of reproductive cancer in unspayed females?

The best thing your friend could do is probably leave the mother and babies alone- don’t check than any more than once a day.  If Mom already has a litter before she should know how to raise this litter too.

The bloody looking urine was most likely a result of urine mixing with post-birth discharge.

i think she is only feeding one of them now…all i see is one big fat one and all da the other ones look skinny and one of them is very wrinkly..what should i do? i think maybe one of them doesn’t have her scent becuz maybe some 1 touched them while i wasnt here so i was thinking to pick him up and rub him against her after i pet her so i could have her scent….is there anything i can do? because i do not want them to die that would be very sad.

The scent should not really have anything to do with it. That is more of an urban legend, at least in regard to rabbits. Mothers will sometimes stop feeding a baby if they know he/she is sick or there’s something wrong with it. They have a good sense of what’s going on.

If hte Mom is not caring for the babies she either may detect something wrong with them or she is not suited to be bred and raise babies.  If you are truly concerned about the baby bunnies you should schedule a vet appt and they can determine if they need to be removed from Mom and show you how to feed AND POTTY them.  You can’t just feed them- they need to be cleaned and stimulated to potty as Mom would do.

Have you read this info on rabbit.org?  Bunnies do not nurse their babies often.  http://www.rabbit.org/care/orphan.html

It is possible to raise orphan bunnies but it is much more difficult and the babies are not as healthy as those that have gotten nutrients from Mom.  KMR is expensive and still not what is ideal for bunnies- but bunny formula would need to be special ordered from Fox Valley and it is more expensive than KMR.

I would not recommend turning the Mom on her back to get the babies to nurse- if she associates the babies with negative things- being forced on her back which is a vulnerable position for Mom- she may avoid going near them.

What is the Momma bunnies owner doing about the bunnies?

                      http://www.foxvalleynutrition.com/main/prod.asp

Day One 32/40 formula and Ultra Boost is what baby bunnies ideally need.  Baby bunnies need a high fat balanced formula- since they are only fed a couple of times a day they need a formula that will stay in their tummies longer.  Fresh goats milk can also be used- but I never had access to goats to try it.
