I have been noticing that Davey and Delilahs cecals have been rather dry, and only one little poop at a time? Is that normal? Dexters are definitley not dry and definitley not one at a time. Why the difference?

There are actually two different kinds of poos

The round harder poos are fecal. That is the majority of their poos. They do piles of those as well as use those to mark with – more individually. With the ones that they mark, they usually put a thin slimy scented coating on the fecal poo (from their anal gland)

Then there are cecals which are the very smushy smelly clustered bunch that they normally will eat so you usually don’t see them.

So just to clarify, I know you said Cecals, but are you talking about their “normal” fecal poops?

I watched davey eat them this morning and (gross sorry) but I was laying on the ground and could see him chewing and moving it around in his mouth, and it wasnt mushy or clustered, its just one little hard poo, but they arent marking poos. They seem to break them open sometimes, but I see Dexter eat his all the time and his are what I would call ‘normal’.

Oh, okay, so you are actually talking about cecals. Sometimes I notice a change in cecals, it could be due to less water intake etc, but sometimes I have seen bunnies even eat just the normal poos. Also, Rucy would have cecals that come out one at a time. They looked more like regular poos, but they really were softer a gooey inside. They just didn’t look like the slimey cluster of cecals that we see photos of.

Has there been any change in their food and water? Do they have a water bowl or bottle. If it is a bottle, just be sure to check it as they can either get stuck or leak.

Other than this, are they eating and pooping normally?

They have a bottle and a little bowl when theyre outside. The bottle was a little high, so I moved it down a little lower. They have both been eating fine maybe not as much as they used to and pooping fine too, I havnt seen them drink as much lately, but they are acting completely normal.

Oh that’s interesting what you said about Rucy BB. I’ve seen Jersey eat her regular poop for quite some time. Sometimes she’ll break them open and leave them too. When that happens, it always seemed the really dry ones, sometimes with hair in it an stuff. I was confused why she would reingest the hair etc. I had wondered whether she had that cowpoop syndrome where the fecal and cecal are mixed but her poops weren’t the typical large, “marshmellowy” poops that these bunnies get. So they can just sometimes have cecal that appears like a regular poop?

Well Rucys cecals still were a little bit different than her normal poos. They were round, come out one at a time, but they would just be softer, not as dry, and no hair. I’m not sure why though the cecals with differ like that (from mucousy grape clusters to rounder singletons) ??? Something to research!
