I know this is minor, but I just had to come in and do a victory dance for this one…finally got Pip to settle down long enough to clip her nails myself. A first for me with my deteriorating eyesight, really…normally I take them to the vet.
She did REALLY well, was all over my bed though and trying to check out Fiver, who was equally trying to check her out. His little bunny lips kept coming through his pen bars for a sniff.
I think he wants a date! ^_^ But alas, Pippi doesn’t have eyes for him (or any other bunny it would seem, really) and my daughter and I liken their relationship (or lack, thereof) to the same one you’d see in Disney’s Oliver and Company… the one between the fancy poodle and the chihuahua….
Pip: (a la Georgette) Get away from me you little bug-eyed creep!
Fiver: (a la Tito) Oooo! I think she likes me!
The real fun part was the aftermath of the trimming, where Pippi was given her treat to reward her, but lo and behold, she passed it up (HUH??? 0_o What the…??) to tool around on the bed and check everything out. She was all aquiver with excitement because, usually when I let her out for exercise, it’s in the xpen in the kitchen. Which is nice, but a bit lonesome. The bed has all sorts of other things to investigate and….ahhhh! It’s so SOOOFFTTT!
And of course, congratulatory noserubs were expected. She just melted into the sweetest cuddle puddle. I haven’t seen her this happy in awhile. (certainly not since before the dogs started living in the house over winter)
I’m glad it went so well and that she didn’t lose any blood. (or me either!)
Now…one down, two to go. Sadly I am sure Fiver will not cooperate and I will have to take him in. Mimzy needs to go back anyway to see if there can’t be anything further done for his nose. I still think it’s allergies and I’m keeping all the things I think set them off away form him. It’s just so sad tha he can’t have blueberries anymore.
But his nails are darker than Pip’s and even with a halogen flashlight I had a hard time seeing the cuticles. >.<
Congrats on trimming Pip’s nails! I was really bad with the nail trimming. And there was that one nail that was really dark… I don’t think I ever cut that one… ever. So they were uneven. Actually… they were all uneven. Oh well I tried!
I think it’s funny that Pip preferred to explore than have her treat! Good luck with Fiver and Mimzy!
Woot! Are we having Champers?
Thanks for the kick in the butt – I really must get onto this. I’m actually finding more difficult the more I do it. Rumball has dark nails to and I’ve never trimmed dark ones before so I’m a bit nervous.
For some reason I’m having trouble picturing Pip in a puddle…. You know, I thought similar about Jersey, that she would be uninterested in another bun. However, now she has her buddy and has him fawning over her and doing her bidding so you never know with Pip & Fiver…
Champers? (translation to North American English, please?) ^_^
Well, I had been trying to bond Pip & Mimzy until Fiver showed up. And then Mimzy got sick with his sinus troubles and they haven’t been together since. I was SO close! >.<
I don’t know. Really, Pip is my daughter’s bunny and (although I don’t think she means it) she says she plans to take her with her when she moves out. Which will break my heart as I’ve taken care of Pip for almost a year now. I fear that will unsettle both of us so I hope she’s not serious.
Fiver and Mimzy will go to the vet for their trims for now. I still don’t have Fiver comfortable enough with me holding him and I want to ask about that snapping thing he does with his teeth when he’s resting. (it’s not a tooth purr) Plus, Mimzy is still sneezing, so I may have to cave in and get the shots for him. His nails are darker than Pip’s, I would not be able to see the quick through them.
I hadn’t realized until having the bunnies how terribly dark our house is. Perhaps I should try taking them outdoors in an xpen and see if that calms (or at least has them sitting still) enough that they don’t move too much, plus the sun could really light up those nails!
Champers? (translation to North American English, please?) ^_^
hehehe….Champagne *hic*
bahahaha!!! congrats mimz!!! and jersey, i love your words
you have to teach us some other ones!!
Aaahhh! ^_^ I geddit…pass me a glass! ![]()
Congrats Mimz!!!! Pass the champers! My guess though, with an Aussie accent, it would be pronounced Champehs? Which would sound much better than our hard North American English “RRRR” in Champerrrrs. So, pass the champehs! ![]()
That is great! That is definitely a big deal! I was proud of myself when I finally buckled down and did the nails by myself! I’m proud of you!
Have you tried doing any bonding with Pip and Fiver? Interactions between cages are not always indicative of how they’ll be face to face. They might surprise you. ;o)
Speak for yourself, BB. We Massachusetts born ignore the “r” at the end of champers and hope it goes away after a few glasses.
Well done, MM! Next we’ll be sending you pedicure kits with french tips.
I’m feeling like a total bogan now! Didn’t realise it was such an Aussie term lol. Correct BB – Champehs
I have ventured to do those nails yet….must do today!!!!!
Congrats! But seriously how did you do that! I havent had my bun too long but I want to clip his nails soon. He squirms and tries to jumpif you pick him up even though he is cuddley. I dont know how I am going to get him to hold still any advice![]()
Nicki, you can try wrap them in the “Bunny Burrito” or put them on a high benchtop, lean over them and snip nails that way. It’s easier to just snip the tips to begin with. Have you seen the tips under Bunny Info? https://www.binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Monthl…fault.aspx
I did Freya today. The vet showed me to just put her on a high counter and kinda flip her most of the way over, although this is easiest with two people. My husband held her flipped with all her feet pointing at me and she just kinda laid there and took it like a real trooper. Her nails are so dark though, I was very chicken and did like maybe 1/16 of an inch off. We’ll remember to bring a flashlight next time.
I didn’t understand Champers either! I like that word though, I think that I’ll use it from now on
In order to trim my bunny’s nails, I cradle them in one arm and tuck their head under my arm. They usually wiggle out a few times over the course of the nail trim, but it usually goes pretty well.
Okay, Jerz, now you’re going to have to explain the term ‘bogan’. Is it anything like our word, ‘bogus?’ ^_^
I know what bonzer means, but that and “G’day” are about the extent of my Oz-eze…lolz….
I’m going to have to find that book I had that listed all the Aussie slang. It would really come in handy about now.
Pip is a rather mellow bunny, for those that are wanting to know, so I can’t take total credit for the trim, she helps by not being squirmy or just plain scary. My biggest worry with Fiver and Mimzy is that they will try to escape once I have hold of their feet and I just don’t want to break someone’s leg. Fiver’s legs are like little sticks, they look like they could snap if he sneezed wrong.
I need to take the boys back in to the vet anyway, so I will probably be trying to squeeze in a visit between my own checkup this week and my son’s GED tests. *sigh* There just aren’t enough hours in the day!
For the record Pam, there’s nothing quite so charming as the Bostonian accent. It’s up there with my favorites: British and Scottish.
And if anyone needs the pedicure kit around here, it’s me. With all the repetitive handwashing I’ve been doing lately, my nails have gone to the dogs…literally!
Oh dear! I’ve got bad habit of throwing these terms out there. Bogan: person who takes little pride in his appearance, spends his days slacking and drinking beer. That should bout cover it. (notice it says “his” alot? – lol)
Oooo…I can think of a few people who fit that term. Good one to know!
More words to use that no one around here knows, so I can speak Aussie, and it’ll be my secret code! HAHA
Rabbitpam – AH right! That is very true! We have alot of different accents just in the U.S. alone! I’m not a hard “r” gal like North Dakota or Minnesota, but it’s definitely pronounced.
LOL
I think accents are wicked awesome. (Isn’t that a Boston slang term? I learned it there.)
Rabbitpam – When I even read the word “wicked” I hear a Bostonian accent. It’s like “Good Day Mate” – I read it, but I hear Aussie!
