I have what is believed to be a mini rex, although she is a large mini?  8 months old, Got her spaded 5/6 weeks ago, everything went well.  She uses her toilet tray, which is in her cage, to poo in and occassional wee, but she keeps moving her toilet tray out the way and peeing in different places around her cage.  How can I get her to use the toilet tray all the time and not her cage.  She also sleeps in her toilet tray and gets covered in all sorts.  Husband does not like her coming out the cage cause he thinks she is spreading germs.  any advice would be appreciated. thank you.

Try attaching the tray too the cage with a hole and a clip. Also how large is your litter pan and what type of litter do you use?

The tray is a cat litter tray, i use some sort of wood shavings.

she may not like the wood shavings to pee in- maybe you can try another type, like pelleted paper (my rabbit’s favorite). i’ve found that the wood shavings type doesn’t really soak up the urine very well so its probably wet when she goes in to weedle.

Make sure that if they are PINE shavings to find another litter – you can even use pine pellets, but the shavings are not good for rabbits.

I think what you should do is try to make her box inviting. Add some hay and treats.

Also, if you are finding she’s using it for a lounge area, then what does she have right now for bedding/lounge area?

The other thing is if she is unable to get out to exercise, she might be just getting out some excess energy by moving things around. I know your husband seems to be afraid of germs or whatever, but keeping her locked up just can’t be the final solution. As a compromise with your husband’s bunnygermaphobia and your bunny’s need to exercise, why not attach an xpen to her cage? That way she can get out and stretch her legs, but for right now, while you are littertraining her she can still say somewhat confined. Though in the future, your husband will have to get over his fear in order for your bunny to have a better life. Rabbits are actually very clean themselves. What in the world is he afraid of getting?
