I think Freya became possessed or someething overnight. She’s been more or less good, and easily distracted or disuaded from doing bad things. Suddenly yesterday she decided she MUST get into the bedroom. She digs and eats the carpet as her sole activity now. We managed to hve her out yestereday for a bit where she just napped, but theminute she woke up she was at the door. Today, it’s all she would do and ended up with about 5 minutes of play time twice today before I just said enough. She’s not social and won’t play with me if I’m on the floor so I can’t distract her that way. Short of sitting in front of the door for a few hours so she can play I don’t know what to do. She’s gone from perfect little baby bunnikins to supreme evil bunnikins and it seems to have happened in a heartbeat. Short of penning her up and keeping mats or something under the door is there anything I can do? Also, if I get her away from the door and guard it, she finds a different door to dig under. She’s between 2 1/2 and maybe 4ish months old, we aren’t totally sure but probably on the younger end of that. If it’s hormones and she’s gonna be like this til we get her spayed in September I may end up in a psych ward cause she’s making me crazy.

Yep, I’m pretty sure it’s hormones kicking in.

Sammy had the same obsession – at about the same stage actually, and I ended up getting a carpet sample (low, tight pile, very cheap) and setting it under the closed bedroom door. She pushes it around, but it stopped the damage. You may want to get several, or order some large seagrass mattes to put over things for the next few months until after she’s spayed.

I’d urge you to re-read the bunny proofing section above and just inspect your home for any tasty things you may have overlooked. If you can distract her with treat rewards to get her in play areas that are OK for her to be in, you could try that. It’s probably time for a new diggy box to get her attention. It was at this stage that I turned my diggy basket over in frustration and she went under it – for the next several weeks. Not much fun for me, but saved my carpet until she got spayed.

Freya will run to the doors every single time like they’re the holy grail, but she’ll learn that they are always closed so she’ll stop lingering if there’s something better to do.

Aw poor Freya! Yup, I’d say you’ve been introduced to the wonderful world of bunny hormones! Pam has a great suggestion about putting a carpet square in favorite chew/dig spots… What is on the other side of the door that she can’t leave the bedroom for playtime?

I don’t want to keep her in the bedroom, I keep her out. I have a dry clean only bedspread and keep my shoes lined up in a row under the bed. I like the idea of keeping my shoes intact lol. I’m also still kinda sorta newleywed and don’t need a bunny in the bedroom. I went to wal-mart and grabbed one of those kitchen rugs for a few bucks. She chews that but it’s protecting the carpet so I don’t care. She’s started standing on her back legs and boxing the door which I think is hilarious and she can do that all day for all I care. She’s also found new things to do to get into trouble since she can’t eat the carpet there. I’m just going to take a deep breath and remind myself that it’ll be over in 2 1/2 months. She has about a billion toys and she thought they were all VERY interesting before this week. I just need to be more vigilant with redirecting her, and when all else fails, “grounding” her for 15 minutes seems to cure her for a while.

Oh okay! I misread… I thought you were trying to keep her in… lol! Mine do that too, not chew the carpet, but always try to run into the bedroom if I don’t close the door… they’re weird! ;o)

Boxing the door that is so funny.   You have some good ideas there to cover the carpet.

Bringing up the door reminds me of when I was married to Brandons dad and we just moved.  HE went to a 2 week training thing.  Odie our catahoula hound missed him so much  she would whine bark and stare at the door.  I would go open it when she barked and she would run up wagging her tail.   Look outside and no Brian.  She was so dissapointed.

She got so upset at one point she would jump up to nearly the top of the door and bounce off it with her feet.  Scared me .   I had to make her stop scared me   was funny tho

Rabbits are like having a 2 year old for 10 years. You tell the rabbit it can’t go somewhere and where is the ONLY place it wants to go?
