so our four month old baby got herself spayed. it was a success, however, shes being a brat and pulling her stitches out. she went through the operation yesterday and stayed overnight at the vets and they told us she pulled them out twice. she now has staples and we’ve kept a coller on her so she won’t bite them out again. does anyone know of any other suggestions we can do to help her not chew on them? i feel bad for leaving her in a coller, but it seems to be the only option that is working for the time being.

it is so hilarious its sad. poor baby.
Rachel had mentioned Zee was getting done soon. I was thinking she was still so young but she does look bigger in these pictures. Good she’s all feisty and troublesome, means she’s come thru it all ok. That collar doesn’t look as cumbersome as others I’ve seen. It’s probably best to continue with it. Only other thing I’ve heard of is something like a belly band. Makes it more tricky to check on her incision though, and I’d be worried about it overheating that area and causing irritation.
I’ve heard of the bunny band too. I’m pretty sure i saw it on the HRS website. I’ll see if i can find the link..
I’m pretty sure they said it would be fine, and that as long as the bun is breathing fine, it isn’t too tight. If you want to try that, it should be okay.
found the link, it’s the very last paragraph on this page:

How’s she going?
She is very cute, lampshade bunny, LOL Please don’t feel sorry for her & take it off so she can eat or anything. I felt sorry for Buddy wearing it so I took it off for a bit each day & thought I watched very close so no chewing – Wrong – he got an infection from chewing & the infection was stubborn so he had to wear it for almost 30 days instead of 10. Poor fella was paper trained (not by me) & since the paper didn’t soak up the pee fast enough & he couldn’t clean his feet. he ended up with scald too. I had to clean both feet & stitches & put cream on feet & give him medicine. It’s a wonder that he doesn’t hate me. LOL Oh & when he 1st came home he wouldn’t eat so I had to force feed him for about 30 hours.
When Nova first came home she had a collar on that looked just like that! I wanted to draw petals on it. Anyways, in Nova’s case the collar was more of a problem than her new ouchie so on the car ride home I took it off and just watched her. Then I put her in a tiny cage at home and just watched her for hours before I went to sleep. She didn’t do anything but look very happy to be home so I left it off. Thankfully she didn’t do anything, but I was sooooo paranoid. I probably aged 10 years that night with worry. In her case though she was literally flipping out and I was more worried that she would open her ouchie because of that. I do wonder how wild that rabbit is… Anyways, I agree with Furface for sure on this, especially since she has already chewed it open twice! Just leave the collar on! Especially since it is a lot nicer than those dog ones!
Hope you dont’ mind a bit of humor. Those waay to seriuos post are infectious. Yes definitely leave it on her. They can cause big problems ripping stitches or staples out. At least it is soft it sure looks soft. Some rabbits just won’t leave things alone. Yours seems to be one of them. You probably feel terrible for her but safer to leave it on. I know you will do whats best for your bunny even though its hard.
Hey look what is it.
Is it a solar panel a lamp shade or a satellite?

Hang in there Zee and parent it will be over b4 you know it. Really it will.
I sooo dissaprove of this lamp shade.

In these instance, it would be *so* convenient if they just spoke English! Then you could just say “Now… if you wouldn’t pull out your stitches, you wouldn’t have to bear this indignity!”
i completely understand. the vet told us the day we took her home that it was okay to take it off, but once we did she kept going for the stitches, so we’ve left it on her since then. occasionally i’ll test the waters and take it off to see if she still tried to go for it, and she does so i immediatly put it back on her. i feel bad, especially since shes dragging her poo everywhere, but shes getting used to it and figuring out how to move with it. like if her paws get stuck underneath the collar, she’ll bite it and move the collar. its cute. but yea, i do feel bad, but before we know it, it will be off and she’ll still be okay!

Yes, be strong it will be over soon & you would feel worse if ripped them open or got infected from chewing.
Aw poor thing! Actually it’s kind of funny because Parsnip just got spayed yesterday too! And today I see the Jen, the woman that runs the shelter, status on facebook about taking her back to the vet; I’m like uh oh I bet she tried to get at her stiches! And yup she did! Jen said “Parsnip pulled out all her staples but one while I was at work. Little brat! But she went back to the vet and got more put in, and now she’s wearing an e-collar
I’ll have to get pictures, ha ha. She’s very mad at me right now.” As soon as she posts pics I’ll have to put them on here. She gets them out next Friday I think and we’ll get her back next weekend.
Whats with your girls pulilng out their stitches. OH my how worrisome. Keep that ecollar on. So glad such things exists. Else we wouldn’t be spaying our pets.

Haha maybe it’s just the harlequin girls
She’s over at the shelter since she’s just a foster. I heard she’s pouting a lot though ![]()
Just an update. Zee stayed in the collar for over a week, but didn’t seem to mind much. She got the staples out a few days ago and has been ECSTATIC she is soooo happy to have her freedom again! She pulled through everything fantastically.
