Hi y’all! I have a one year old netherland dwarf that i adopted from another family. he and i were doing great with each other and building trust, but then i took him to be neutered. not only did i have to catch him and restrain him (which he hates) to take him to the vet, but i had to do it for three days after to give him his medicine. now he runs away from me when i try to pat him and it feels like we’re back where we started! do y’all have any tips for rebuilding our relationship? thanks!

I would just sit with him and let him approach you for a while without any petting on your part. Maybe after a day or two, hold a piece of his favorite treat and let him take it from your hands, but don’t pet him. I think after doing this for a little while he’ll realize you’re not going to chase him down and retrain him. My bun gets mad at me when I try to pick him up, but he generally gets over it in less than a day.

Try to take a nap on the floor. He’ll make sure that you don’t sleep and thereby will have his revenge while climbing all over you. That usually does it for my netherland dwarf. Unfortunately, he’s adopted Maryann’s habit of nipping my socked feet.

he definitely seems to be back to normal. he still won’t take a treat from my hand (he never has) but if i put in on the throw, he eats it. we’re working on it
              thanks guys!!
