  I’m frustrated… we just went through a huge molt with Daisy and now a few weeks later Ruffles is molting…. question: why don’t they molt at the same time??? I’m getting annoyed with bunny hair and my daughter doesn’t want to touch Ruff since “he so gross” right now. Honestly, why do they molt at different times? Isn’t molting related to the weather??

  LOL! Sorry to laugh at your frustration. I just can sympathize. I honestly don’t know for sure why they won’t molt at the same time, but I sure wish they would all get together and put it in their datebooks!. Geesh!!
  
  My understanding though is that the molt is hormone related. So though it can be weather and seasonal related as their hormones will kick as a reaction to those things, bunnies inside with the same inside temps, same amount of light, will also molt about 3 – 4 times a year. So in your bunnies cases, one may have molted, the other picked up a scent difference with the hormones and by the time the one bunny was finished, the other bunny’s body was reacting. (again though, that’s just my best guess as to why one would do it right after the other)
  
  hang in there – brushing daily does help. I also keep a wet washcloth near me to wipe my face while I brush or all the fur tickling my nose will make me go crazy.

  makes sense to me, sort of. Thanks for responding. I guess we’ll just hang in there with the bunny fur. I sort of wish I was a spinner right now. I could make tons of yarn.

  well i have have horses also. they shed at different times depending on the breed.

  Use a furminator! 😀 really really helps. I swear I get three buns our of my netherland! Obviously just becareful not to over-do it and hurt their skin.

  I got a Hairbuster Pet Comb, which is really just a metal pronged comb, but it works well, too.
  
  She didn’t like it at all until she started shedding this month, then she holds still for a complete combing twice daily. It helps.

  mrmac – it can affect some bunnies moods- are yours gettin’ grumpy? Also, spring/summer season can make even neutered/spayed bunnies get a little kooky.
  
  I have both the furminator and the hairbuster, and I do have to be very careful with the furminator because you can really take off too much hair and neither you NOR the bunny know until you see a some major bald spots.

  Yeah I overgroomed Cotton twice with that furminator. I won’t use it on him anymore. Never used it on Ruby either.
  
  I should probably put it on craigslist for sale. I have to go to mail store and see how much to ship it somewhere.

  No thanks to the furminator. I think Ruff would kill me if I sucked the fur out of this body. It’s gotten a little better. I think he’ll be done in a week or so. We got Ruffles last July and this is actually the first time I noticed him molting. He always sheds a little but I’ve been pulling tons of fur out of him. I didn’t realize the extent of this until I saw Daisy molt. It’s an alarming amount of fur.

  Thanks Beka, they are really in love it’s so cute to watch them. I used to think that Daisy loves Ruffles more than he loves her, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore. They love each other and really enjoy each other’s company. It’s hard to think of them being separated.
