I think Marshmallow KNOWS the the mama bunny and her babies are in the house.  They aren’t in the same room and they’ve never been in the living room where all of my bunnies are but she knows.  My sweet girl, the one who runs up to the side of her pen and begs for pets, ATTACKED my hand today!  I did wash my hands before sticking them in Marshmallow’s and Digger’s cage but the smell was probably still on my shirt.

I hope she doesn’t keep up this diva attitude the whole time the fosters are here.  She and I are gonna have to have a talk about who the real boss of the house is…and if I say we can have house guests….we can have house guests!!!

Hahaha, I definitely agree that Marshmallow knows about the other bunnies I have a rescue friend who also has a very jealous rabbit, and she has to literally change every piece of clothing after an adoption event or else the rabbit will smell the other bunnies on her and bite her. She nicknamed her bunny the “Great White Shark” because this bunny would bite her bad enough to leave HUGE bruises if she forgot to change before she went to visit her in her cage. So I think that changing the shirt so it doesn’t smell like foster bunnies might be a good idea Maybe you need to get yourself one of those doctors coats to wear when you see the fosters!

I was thinking something similar only in reverse: get a man’s big shirt or a smock to put on over your “smelly” clothes when you get near marshmallow. Although having it for the babies than taking it off probably would work better.

Cotton is the same darned way.   He draws blood.  Even if I go to pet a bunny at the pet store he can still smell it hours later. I learned not to bother petting another bunny.  Except for Ruby.  He doesnt’ mind her smell.

I had to change my shirt and wash my hands up to the elbow and I put lotion on to hide whatever was left.  I wish you the best in this situation it can be frustrating all that extra work

He got me the other day I petted another bunny.  A male at that.

Uhoh… I’m starting to be worried about what will happen if I see another bun. I sure hope Freya’s not super jealous, I like staying intact.

Unrelated, but my dog Taiku has pretty keen sense of smell, as he caught my scent when I was way around the side of the house just peeking at him to see how he was doing without rousing him and getting him all stressed. Needless to say, it didn’t work out and he got stressed anyway because he could smell me but not see me. >.<
Funny, when I brought Fiver home, he came straight into the same room as the other bunnies, but I never noticed any strange territorial reactions from either Mimzy or Pip. Now they may not want to share the same xpen as of yet, but I think it’s cool that at least I didn’t have to get him his own room! ^_^

OK, new problem, I emailed Mary Ellen to see what she suggested I do to calm Marshmallow down and her solution is to take the mama and babies away!  She wants to get them tonight!   I don’t want them to leave, does anyone have any ideas on how to make Marshmallow understand that her behavior is not acceptable?  She attacked my hands yesterday before I even went anywhere near the fosters.

UPDATE:  Crisis averted for now…I am going to try moving the mama and babies to the second floor of the house to see if that calms things down.
