Hi everyone! I just have a quick question: Are homemade Rabbit Condos really sturdy?

You know, the ones made out of the wire storage cubes? I’ve been watching some videos about them, and was just curious. Are they sturdy enough to hold multiple levels? Do they sway back and forth or is there a chance of it tipping over? Just wondering.

        ~Thanks!

Mine is super sturdy. I used the connectors that came with it and zip ties. I can pick it up (with help) and shake it and nothing happened.

I would say using the connectors is key.

You can also buy zip ties with wall connectors which stick to the wall for some extra security… or attach those amazing command strips to the cube connectors and stick it to the wall. Some of the ones I’ve seen have upper levels that look like they’re curved/buckling in the middle, but I guess they hold alright anyway.

We just finishe dours this weekend and I am very impressed with how sturdy it is!!! We used the connectors that the grids cam with as well as zip ties. They are 4 stories and it doesn’t even jiggle in the slightest when our 2 younger buns gallop up and down!!!!

So I went to BBB and got a pack of grids to start building myself one of these… even though I don’t actually have a bunny yet =/

Question, though… does adding the corrugated plastic on upper levels make those levels sturdier? I notice it does move a little in the middle of the 2nd level. Also, I was trying to make the cage to fit into a corner so I wanted to just use plastic for one of the back walls (less messy, yay) but I’m concerned the cage won’t be sturdy if I do this, especially if I want a second level (which I do because otherwise I could just use my dog’s old crate). Has anyone tried it?

If you find it’s too wobbly, you may have to use wood to support certain areas or create supporting grid(s) in the middle. There are bunch of links about how to make a cube condo https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Coo…fault.aspx (scroll down below the gallery)
