Oh my hubby is like that. Feed them way to much fruit and bread.  He doesn’t have buns anymore these 2 are mine and he doesn’t feed them. Phew.

The dirty bum.   I have heard cornstarch can be rubbed into the hair there and usually the dirty stuff stick in the starch and comes off.

Or just wash the bum area only.  So not use shampoo or soap tho.  I never had luck with cornstarch myself but maybe it will work better for you.

Isn’t that just so frustrating that no one listens when you tell them the proper way to feed a bunny?   Tell them that is why it’s bum is so dirty.  Gives them diarrhea.  Hopefully that will get thru

you can tell if a bun is overweight by feeling along their sides. you should be able to feel their ribs without having to press too hard, and their belly should not bulge out past their ribs.

you are right to raise concerns with this bunny’s diet. good for you! small, oddly shaped poops are not a good sign at all and IMHO the bunny is at a risk for stasis. you might also let them know that buns will not eat as much hay as they should when their bellies are too full of other food. i’m glad you’re keeping an eye on their bun!

no kidding! my mom used to do that with her cat. she couldnt figure out why the cat was obese yet she’d feed her cheese and bits of whatever she was eating! i pointed this out once and she said the same thing your bf’s mum & dad said… “i don’t do it all the time!” right. sure. and your cat is fat because…???

Well the easiest way to get a wakeup call is to have them take the bun to a vet and tell them what they feed him. If they decide to stop giving human food, have them ween it off of the rabbit. Don’t stop cold turkey. That alone could cause their digestive track to go into trouble.

Take the bunny to a vet with them. Or call a breeder. Make them explain the bunny’s diet and everything to the Veterinarian, and hopefully the vet will advise her that she’s been doing it wrong.
