I am trying to figure out what I should/can feed my bunny. Right now, I give him unlimited pellets and hay. I also have started to cut up a baby carrot a day for him since I have read you have to introduce everything slowly. Does this sound alright? Should I be doing anything different? Also, people have guessed that he is between eight to twelve weeks old.

HRS has some guidelines here: rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html#babies

This is the part that applies to you right now:

What quantities of food should I feed babies and “teenagers”?

          • Birth to 3 weeks–mother’s milk
          • 3 to 4 weeks–mother’s milk, nibbles of alfalfa and pellets
          • 4 to 7 weeks–mother’s milk, access to alfalfa and pellets
          • 7 weeks to 7 months–unlimited pellets, unlimited hay (plus see 12 weeks below)
          • 12 weeks–introduce vegetables (one at a time, quantities under 1/2 oz.)

          Good Luck!

I think it’s fine to start him on veggie but I think a fresh green vegetable that is recommended is best rather than a carrot – you don’t want him to eat carrots every day – they are very healthy and good for them but they should be limited due to the higher sugar content.

I just started my baby bun, who’s around 11-12 weeks old on a leafy green lettuce, I buy the spring mix for my adult bun, and I just pick some of the green leafs out for Oliver the baby. Hope this helps!!! =)

I buy the bagged lettuce too. I like romaine, so that’s what Freya gets. Somehow a bag of that salad mix with cabbage and carrots ended up in my house and she got a bit of cabbage which she absolutely loves. Last night I spent about 5 minutes staring at all the raisins in the store. I was in sight of the registers and felt stupid. I couldn’t decide which brand to get her, in the end I got the most expensive ones. I almost got the white ones but didn’t know if they’re ok. I like white raisins so we could have shared the bag.

Well, the lettuce mix I get is a spring mix, it doesnt have romaine, its all green and red leaf lettuce, but romaine is good. I pick out the green leaf for Oliver right now, only. I don’t know for certain, but I would maybe hold off of the raisins, someone else could probably tell you better than I could, but I’m a worry wart!

Raisins are okay but in very small quantities because they are high in sugar – probably half a raisin a day for a baby rabbit. The white ones are fine. I’m sure she will love them.
