She looks awful and hates our wire dog brush. I need a brush that is effective as she looks awful–you can see the clumps of loose hair on her body that come out when I pull them.

        thanks

I asked a similar question a little while ago and since then I think I’ve found something that works. I started with a slicker brush that has the little plastic balls on the end of the tines and it didn’t do anything. Then I bought a Furminator, which works great, but I try not to use it a ton becuase I’ve heard it can irritate skin and cause bald spots if overused  So I use the Furminator during sheds, but I’ve found a regular slicker brush (no little balls on the end) that seems to work really well and pull out some hair whether he’s shedding or not. And it’s made for small animals with delicate skin, so I think it’s pretty safe and probably doesn’t hurt him at all.

You said your bun doesn’t like being brushed, and it may just be that she’s anti-grooming in general.  You can always try plucking the tufts out, using a lint roller, rubbing her fur with damp hands, etc to get the hair out. I find it helpful to put my bunny down in an odd place (for him that’s out in the open in the middle of the room, which makes him a little nervous) and he stays pretty still while I brush. If I try to do it near his cage, he just jumps to a place where I can’t reach him.

Hairbuster comb hairbuster comb hairbuster comb.    Works great.   I find it works better on Ruby as her hair is a bit longer well quite a bit longer than Cottons.

Though it does work on Cotton too.  I use both hairbuster and slicker and brush hair opposite direction too.  Helps loosen and remove hair.

slicker combs can cause “slicker burn” if the end of the wire are not coated (like was previously mentioned).

I have Mini Lops and I love the Hair Buster comb, but I also use a Zoom Groom and Furminator on them (although they dislike the Furminator).  The Hair Buster works great for getting clumps and hair that is ready to shed- the Zoom Groom usually gets a cloud of hair (can be messy to use) and the Furminator grooms the undercoat and it is possible to overgroom- I did on one of my cats and he looked terrible in one spot although it did not hurt him- he had no soft fluffy hair and all of his dark guard hairs at the spot I started the strokes at on his shoulder.

I have not found bristle brushes, slicker brushes, rakes or wide tooth combs to he helpful at all.  I love the Hair Buster and it is my first choice- and I use it on my cats ALL the time too.  (I am tempted to buy more just to have extra in case I ever can’t find them again- they are that awesome!)
