I find that most rabbits do not like to walk on tile floors – they don’t have pads on their feet like dogs and cats so they don’t have good traction.

Hello! If you can use the mats to make pathways around he should be ok. Some can be skittish on hard floors but they do like to plop down on the cool tile. Just make sure he can navigate his way round the space ok by using the matting. Hope you got extra for it may get peed on or eaten!

Hi. I’ve had Freya home for about 2 weeks now and she’s been mostly staying in the bathroom. She has some mats but really loves the cool floor to lay on. She likes to flop behind the toilet, I have no clue what’s up with that, but whatever. I’ve got a box in there for her too so she has a private place to go and something to play with besides her toys.

Grass mats are excellent to use, since they’re safe for nibbling on. I think you can’t go wrong with many mats. If you have too many to cover the tile (and leaving a patch for a cool tummy snooze is a good idea) than you will be able to use them outside the bathroom later to cover carpet areas that might otherwise get chewed or peed on. Sammy pulls up carpet corners, so I have cut the mats and put strips across the tempting spots.

Your bunny will show you its preferences. Sammy will not step onto tile in bathroom or kitchen, but prefers her plain plastic floor of her cage, even after her spay surgery. She loves romping on the carpet. Observing your bunny is the best indicator of how to accommodate him to be comfortable but not destructive. I’ve heard of bunnies so at ease on kitchen floors that they nose their way up to the fridge. You never know.

Grass mats are great for chewing, the only thing is that while you are litter training, if he pees on the mats, they are not easily cleanable and so the scent of where he has peed may entice him to pee there again. I would recommend old towels and blankets (unless he begins eating them) – and keep a good supply of them so that you can rotate out for the washing machine.
