All this talk of getting a third bunny has finally sunk in! My husband agreed but only if the rabbit was already fixed…YAY! We have a boy and a girl pair right now, Delilah is the more dominant of the two, but we dont know whether a boy or girl bun would be best?

I’ve yet to try bonding, but I know it can be done. Check on the form topic of bonding, there are some GREAT stories in there!!!

Well, probably a submissive male but since you are in San Diego you can go to the San Diego HRS with your pair and they can help you choose the right rabbit and give some tips as well.

We found a couple males that are in other shelters around San Diego, but still waiting to hear back if they are still available and such…most of the buns at the HRS are either girls or pairs so that narrowed things down quite a bit…

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this website but maybe this will also help you look.

Thats the site I found them through! The two we asked about are:

My name is Whiskers and I was found running around in a very nice family’s yard in El Cajon. I am a male Mini Rex about 3-3.5 months old. I will be available for adoption on 5/1/09 after I am neutered. I am a very active and curious boy and I love to give out kisses. I will be on the small side so I need a family without young children; however, well behaved children over 10 years old would be okay.

He is the same coloring as ours now…so cute!

                  And………

Dandi-lion is a neutered male, buff Mini Lop-dwarf mix with one ear up and one ear down.  He’s about 6 months old.  Dandi-lion was dumped with his brothers Clover and Sage.  Dandi-lion is the “big” brother.  He loves getting pets and treats, and zooming around his pen!  He is nervous around fast-moving objects (other than himself), so would do better in a home without young children.  He is very good with his litterbox.

So cute! Now I want both! I hope one of them will work!

It is worth contacting a rescue that you are interested in working with even if they don’t have a rabbit listed right now that catches your eye.  Approved adopters probably get a heads up on available bunnies even before they hit the internet.  We do this with the Aussie Rescue that I volunteer for- someone with their paperwork in and already approved hears about and adoptable before the general public.

You’ll also want to see if you can take them in to meet the bunnies. I’m not sure how that would work, have them meet one at a time or… together? I’m not sure as I’ve never done the trio thing. Hopefully they can help you at the rescue to figure out the best way to go about things…

We are meeting “whiskers” on friday for an introduction so we’ll see how that goes. I was thinking to do it one at a time so its not two against one, and then do both depending on how they individually get along? But maybe I could be totally wrong and thats not the best way?! Who knows?! Hopefully it works!
