I live in Utah and had a terrible time finding exactly the breed I wanted. I wanted a Holland Lop, female, baby and white or cream colored. What I found was a brown baby mini lop (a girl, or so we hope the vet confirms in 2 days.) I was closely watching shelters and classified ads, even pet stores. I saw her advertised for $10 and the people selling her were willing to sell as pets or meat!!! I almost brought home more than one, at least we wouldn’t have had bonding issues with litter mates. I saw her and she’s the most beautiful, precious thing in the whole world and I wouldn’t give her up for 1 or 2 or 100 of the bunny I thought I wanted.

If you really have your heart set (I thought I did and wasn’t willing to comprimise) then you may need to be willing to drive hundreds of miles to find your bun. I did find exactly one of what I thought was my dream bunny, about 1500 miles away. Thanks, but a 2 day round the clock road trip with a scared baby didn’t appeal to me. If you’re up to it though, go for it. Just make sure you are very well prepared for a road trip with a bun and have air conditioning. A hot car is no place for a baby.

You should check out petfinder http://www.petfinder.com/search/sea…roit%2C+mi   There looks like there is a french lop availabe with the Mid west rabbit rescue in plymouth, MI

Also check out the http://www.rabbitrr.org/   That’s their site directly.

I was also going to suggest petfinder.com – there are some really great rabbits on there, and you never know, you may just find one in your zip code that you love even if it is not a French Lop! I would also recommend adopting an adult rabbit, the reason is that they need homes just as much as other rabbits (if not more so) and with adults you do not have to be concerned with the teenage hormonal stage that rabbits go through and become destructive, in addition, often adult rabbits from shelters will already be spayed and neutered so you don’t have to worry about that getting taken care of.

I wish someone would have told me how nice adults were before I got my baby. I drove an hour and a half to get him….and now I see there a ton of really nice bunnies at the shelter. My bun was the breed I thought I wanted, but now I see I just wanted a rabbit…it didn’t matter what breed.

Besides, if you look close you get to see the personality before you get one. If you really are set on it why not try a county fair? I’m sure the 4h people can help you get what you want.

Hi Amira this site gives some contacts that may help. http://michiganstatelopclub.tripod.com/id2.html
I would urge you to look into adoption first though. As the saying goes…by adopting you save 2 lives. You give a home to one rabbit in need and free a space in the shelter for another needy one.
                  Goodluck on you quest!

Like the others recommended, check local rescues and shelters first. There are many wonderful bunnies in need of a home. I don’t advocate going thru petstores or breeders b/c with so many homeless buns at risk of being euthanised, it is not the responsible decision. When it comes right down to it, breed does not matter. We all have preferences and buns we’d love to have someday (FLEMISH GIANT!), but if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. Let the bunny choose you!
