The  past few days, Mr. Bunny has been on an odd pooing schedule. He’ll make some poo late at night, then won’t poo during the night, then he’ll make a LOT of poo in the early afternoon, then won’t make any until night again. He’s been active, having a big appetite, and being friendly as usual so I didn’t pay much attention to it. The poo’s he has been making have been very very large (and a little more oval-shaped than round), which my dad and I both noticed right away. I figured that it was just from all the hay he’s been eating since I lowered how much pellets and veggies he gets (he now gets a 1/4 cup of pellets and 1 1/2 cups of veggies a day).

But today, as usual, in the afternoon, he hadn’t made fresh poo since the night before. He was sitting near the litterbox, staring at it, eating hay. He hopped over to see me and was very friendly. Then he hopped back in and kept eating hay…Now tonight, he seems to have made very very little poo if any. All his pellets and some hay were eaten, as usual, though he didn’t seem quite as exited over the veggies as he has been the past few days, he did eat some. I also noticed the poo he made last night was back to about normal size, down from extra-large size.

I was just wondering, if it’s still bad if a bun is not pooing very much at all but still eating normally? Am I just an over-nervous bunny mommy?

Well I really don’t know… Yes when you change their diets things like that change for a short while… AFter Ruby’s surgery she had few and small odd shaped ones…

I am not sure if you should see the vet or not… I do know that if they have a blockage it can be a very bad thing… However I would think having a blockage the bunny would be hunched over and not very active or eating much…

You know sometimes weird shaped poo is just normal for certain bunnies… Have you had yours for very long?  IF it is a young bunny under 1 yr I would say this is very unusual cuz  they poop all the time. As they get older they tend to go when sitting in the litterbox eating hay…

do you notice the poo after he eats his hay?  Maybe he only eats it twice a day and goes at that time.
