I was just pondering this idea but maybe you guys could give me some input!  Inkblot’s cage is currently by the front door area of our house.  The space is about 5 feet by 5 feet (+/- half foot on some sides maybe).  On one side there is an empty wall (this is where the cage is).  On another is the double-door.  The 3rd wall has an opening that is the size of one single door and the 4th wall has a wide opening into the dining room (about 5 ft).

I don’t mind leaving her cage open and letting her roam the little area when I’m not home I just don’t have any gates or anything to block off the two openings (the 5ft and the single door size).  I thought this was kind of cool http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm but it is definitely not good for a rabbit.  She’d either get through or get her behind stuck trying to get out!

Also, how high do you think it should be?  She doesn’t jump that much anymore but once in a while… she can still get some air o_O!

I’m not sure if I’m being clear… let me know if you need some clarification of what I’m trying to get at .

Try checking out doorway gates in the baby department at places like Target or Wal-mart (not sure what you have in you rbeautiful state!!). They usually have a good selction and the prices are cheaper than the ones marketed for animals!! I have several that are very heavy-duty plastic with a lattice type design that are definately small enough to keep a bunny contained without get stuck!! I believe they are made by the Cosco or Grecco (both baby brands)

An excuse to go to Target! Oh don’t mind me… Target has only been in Hawaii for 2 months… the ooh factor hasn’t quite worn off yet…

With a weird shape/size area, could you make a length of NIC grids ziptied together and just attach to that space? It would be a lot cheaper than getting a baby gate for a large area. I work at a baby store and the gates that are made for wider spaces are either 1) not that sturdy, 2) so expensive, that’s it’s hardly worth it, or 3) not suitable for small animals (only babies).

The gates you posted could be modified by using a screen on the other side maybe, but then you’re spending even more money to fix the gate.

I thought about that Beka. I just need a stretch that goes 5 feet for the big archway opening and a 2 footer for the small doorway. Does anyone know if Target carries the NIC grids that don’t have holes big enough for a rabbit head?

The ones around me do, but someone said to check as the seem to be changing their size!!! They are in the more home improvement like section, not with the furniture (took me awhile to figure that out!!!!). There are 23 grids for 16.99 (or something close to that!!!)

I got a bifold closet door free from Craigslist (and hauled it home on the bus!)

Then I sawed the top off and hung the bottom part in the doorway with hinges and a latch. The top part is open so there is plenty of airflow, but the bottom is solid so Pepper can’t even SEE to try and get in.  Most of the time she treats it like a wall.

A bunch of the ones on Target’s website says not available in stores… but they’ve gotta have something in the stores right? I’m going to try to go on my way home and see what my Target has.

Gah I didn’t find any at Target . Guess fabric cubes are all the rage. Guess I’ll have to reluctantly check out Walmart. There is a local store with the cubes on their ad but it is like $25 for a set of grids that makes 3 complete connected cubes. That hardly sounds like a good deal to me o_O.

The bifold closet door sounds awesome btw! But trust me… don’t let me have a saw .

Got the camera working again, so I’ll try to remember to take pics of that and the hay rack setup this weekend.

So I ended up building this…

It needs more work I know… I’m going to go home and improve it.  I hope she doesn’t manage to jump over it.  I can’t seem to find her on the webcam but there are several blind spots so hopefully she’s just in one of those spots.  And not already managed to break out in the first 15 minutes that I was gone from the house.  Oh she just appeared back on the cam!  Phew…

                                I think she’s really confused…
