Last vet visit he gained a pound since i got him.  he was perfect weight i see he is slowly getting more and more chubbier.

i feed him 1/4 cup a pellets at night

        greens in the am

        greens in the pm

        and unlimited hay.

he has the run of his own room. not caged up but he doesnt play alot on the floor he just sot of stays in a few places.  when hes out he runs around a bit then sits there.  he doesnt play with toys.  i just noticed that my pellets are alfalfa based ( i was like duh that was the problem) i found a local supplier that carries oxbow.  i am going to slowly switch him up.  should i cut the pellets out in general?

any ideas for a fattie pattie?

No, don’t totally eliminate pellets. Did the vet feel like he was overweight?

I would just slowly switch over his pellets.

How much greens are you giving him too – maybe you are giving him too many greens.

I think if you can try to get him a little more active that would be the best.

the vet said he could loose a bit of weight she wasnt too concerned but that was about a month or so ago i just think he looks bigger. i am working on his excersize. the greens are well over two cups.

Definitely don’t cut out the pellets, just switch him, Maybe cut down on the greens a bit, but 2 cups isn’t over doing it, I wouldn’t think. I think if you can get him to exercise more, maybe get some boxes and make alittle maze, or something to get him excited would help. I sure he has toys, but sometimes with Oreo I have to think up new things, because he gets bored with the same toys, so I have different sets, and I switch them up every few day, or once a week.

Coming off the alfalfa pellets should help. What type of hay does he have? You didn’t mention treats….c’mon, you give treats right? We’re all guilty of that right? he he!

hes not so much a treat bun, well i guess he likes oats but only like a teaspoon when he gets them strawberries or carrots. i do give carrots and berries at least once a night like about a half inch of a carrot or a whole strawberry. i know that could be bad too.

Not too bad, I think alfalfa would contribute more so. Also watch out for wheat hay, even possibly oat hay too…

his hay is only timothy hay i guss i forgot that one, i will just switch his pellets to oxbow and then try and get him more playful. even if he is charging me i guess hes moving lol! he still is a little feisty we have an understanding though he doesnt bite just boxes me now lol i cant help but laugh at him. hes too darn cute to be upset that hes feisty.

I think I would slightly cut back on the treats – one or the other but not both. Maybe give raisins, just a couple, instead of a bigger strawberry. Fruits have a lot of sugar so they are more fattening than they seem. He doesn’t need to have carrots regularly, it’s just a vegetable they like. You could try some new vegetables as treats, like a sprig of mint or cilantro. Definitely the alfalfa pellets changed out gradually – maybe try introducing 1/2 new Oxbow and 1/2 alfalfa at first, then fewer alfalfa each time.

Is it 2 cups of veggies a day, or a meal? 1 cup in AM, 1 in PM is not too much.
Would love to see a picture.
