My boyfriend spent all day yesterday building this huge condo for Dexter.  He was scared of the jumps at first but he got use to it.  It’s not done because we ran out of carpet for the second level and still have to furnish it .  The front middle fully opens for easy cleaning and it’s also on casters so I can move it around and clean behind it easily.  I am so excited for him.  I do have a question though, the tube on the top is made of those cardboard concrete form tubes (made from cardboard).  I think the inside has some kind of wax but it doesn’t scratch off or anything.  Dexter started chewing on the tube and I was a little concerned about that.  Is it going to be ok for him or should I take it ouf if he is going to chew some of it? Thanks

        -Michelle

I got the plans ideas from http://www.longislandrabbitrescue.org/NIC-plans.pdf (Very nice & w/detailed instructions)

              it was under cool habitats

It is huge so I would think it would be perfect for multiple bunnies, Dexter is a king now all by himself in there now   I might have to get him a Queen

I love the condo! especially the tube looks like fun for your Dexter…. if you don’t want him to chew on the tube, try putting a piece of other, non-waxed cardboard into the tube, like an empty paper towel roll or similar. My rabbits love to chew on large thick tubes also, I give them the empty cling-wrap cardboard rolls, you know the huge ones?
I really like the colorful rug at the bottom, I can’t find one like that for my rabbits. All the ones that I came across were made from stretchy synthetics, not cotton. My rabbits eat rugs so maybe it’s a no for mine…

I was thinking about maybe covering it with some kind of cotton fabric.   I got the rug from Target,  it’s a 100% cotton rag rug and was only like $5.00.  They might have them on their website.

That’s cool. Is that tunnel connect though to something – it has that hole and I would worry it would turn around when the rabbit got in there and dump them out.

Yes I connected the tube to the side of the cage with zip ties so it won’t move. I thought the same thing but it’s very secure and won’t turn over

That’s awesome! I would build one but my mom would kill me… Did you buy the blue and white cubes on purpose?

when we went to get the cubes, they only had 2 boxes left which were those colors. It’s actually silver so it’s blue and silver We decided to make it a checkered pattern.

Where did you buy them from?  It looks like you got all small grids, which is great!

I use the big “concrete form” tubes for my bunnies and the nice thing is that the wax lining tends to stay clean until the peel the layers off by starting at an edge.  the wax coating does not allow pee to soak in- and they do not seem to want to pee in them anyway (which I can’t say the same for other cardboard things).  I painted the outside of my tube with nontoxic craft paint.  But I watched them with it to make sure they were not going to have a chewing binge.  They only nibble and delight in pulling any layers from the inside- like how a small cardboard tube can be unwound- they do that once it starts- but a little at  a time.  It is cute to watch them “chin” the one we have in our living room since that makes it roll- and Schroeder will hop after it so he can finish chinning the edges.

I got  them from Target.  When I went again to get another box they only had the ones that had the large grids with the smaller ones so I guess I lucked out
