  Yay! A little tip that was shared here some time ago might be useful. I think it works. Put a cupped hand down on the ground in front of their noses. If they lower the head, they may allow you to pet the head. I sometimes then just tickle the whisker a bit then move my hand to the top of the head and pet gently. Good luck – soon you’ll be petting them on demand!

  It took me over 16 months until Dono would let me touch him without running away. He’s still a bit skittish with my pets but will sit there for them now.
