We got him!!!!!!!!!!
(camera and comps still packed so no pics yet! I’m working today *Booooooo* so I’m on my work computer)
We picked him up yesterday!!!! He is soo fantastic and cute and lovable and sweet!!! ![]()
He’s just perfect! He came barreling up the shelter hallway, crashed into my legs rolled over and slobered all over me while I rubbed his belly ![]()
We had quite the trip home with him, a little over five hours and he’s very nervous in cars. So we made lots of stops for walkies. When we got home he seemed to just know he was home. It was incredible how quickly he settled in-mind you he was pooped!
So I found out his story (was wondering if was a surrender or a stray). He was born at the pound with Parvo and almost died, they were going to euthanize but the vet wanted to try and save him-and was successful! He’s been at the Humane Society for most of his two years and has been adopted three times. He was returned by one home because he chased deer out of the yard and they wanted to watch the deer
Returned from another because he wandered
(no fence, no leash…why oh why would he wander?
) and the third home because her other dog hated him and attacked him (he does have a scar above his eye) ![]()
I cannot believe how sweet and friendly he is after all that!!!
I just love him.
He’s fascinated by the bunnies-he really really wants to meet them but we’re going to let him settle and more trained first. I want to know that he’ll understand ‘gentle’ and ‘quiet’ commands first-but boy is he interested!
(His stock photos! Will update with new ones this week) Oh and “Petey” is now “Mikey”
![]()

Ooooh congrats!!!
He’s gorgeous! ![]()
Can’t wait for more pics!
Such a lucky dog to have a home like yours…
after all the *odd* homes he has been to! ![]()
Oh poor boy living for so long in the shelter! Congrats to you AND to him! It really sounds like you guys were meant to be together. The gotcha fairies were working their magic to make sure he was available for you when you were ready. :0)
Yay! He is sooo cute!!! I can’t wait to hear how he does with the bunnies.
Woo hoo! Looking forward to hearing of his adventures. How’s he adjusting to his name change? Probably fine, just lapping up all the attention! How sweet was his greeting at the shelter!!
Just wait until he discovers the rabbits are a never empty Pez dispenser (that is what my husband refers to our bunnies as).
If you are changing his name and he has had it for awhile I would call him both names at first “Petey Mikey” and use them interchangeably after that. Our dogs respond to a couple of different names just from having nicknames- our Golden- Linus was also known as Red and Buddy. And Chad calles our foster dog Charley- Buddy, Chucky and Charles.Molson is also Buddy, Good Boy. Skye is Pretty Girl, Good Girl, etc.
So if you use the new name in positive ways like when you are talking to him- like “Mikey are you hungry or Mikey do you want to go for a walk”- then he associates the name with good things
Yay MIKEY! he is so adorable! Really sent him back for chasing a deer because they wanted to watch it??? Definitely not dog people lol.
He’s beautiful!!! Amazing he was returned before!
Our neighbors adopted a dog, Boone, over a year ago, and Boone had also been returned by previous adopters. They sure missed out because this dog is one of the best dogs I have ever seen He’s such a good boy and so sweet. They did have to deal with some issues like have a trainer help him with some strange “phobias” he seemed to have – like the kitchen, but he overcame that and he really is the best dog I have ever been around.
Can’t wait to hear more about your new addition and see more photos.
CONGRATS AND WELCOME HOME MIKEY!
Congrats!! He’s a handsome doggie for sure!! Keep us updated on how he’s doing and of course more pictures!!
He’s gorgeous!!! In my opinion, animals know when they are finally “home”!!! And Mikey has probably already hung up his “Home Sweet Home” sign!!!!!!!
Congrats![]()
Just wait until he discovers the rabbits are a never empty Pez dispenser
Hahahah he already has! I shake the bunny blankies out on the porch and he’s been snacking on his way in and out of the house!
I wasn’t sure he would-my parents dog (who isn’t above eating poop especially that left by geese) won’t touch bunny poop-but Mikey decided it’s a delicacy right off the bat.
He’s soooo interested in the bunnies. He trots down the hallway to see if ‘maybe the door is open *now*’ hehehe And actually we were in the yard last night and he saw Rupert in the windwo (I made them a ramp and a window seat so they could see out and Rupert sleeps up there) and he got so excited! It was adorable.
He’s very quiet-we haven’t yet heard him bark. They said at the shelter he will bark but he just isn’t barky. I was going outside with him and the neighbors dog was out (that dog is a barker) and Mikey came down the steps, looked at him and wagged his tail-then turned and followed me! I cannot believe how well behaved he is.
Course he is just settling in-he may start to show some bad behaviors over the next few weeks-but right now he’s an angel! Dave wanted to kennel him during the day, and I agreed only until we’re unpacked-I dont’ want him getting into something but I dont’ like kenneling dogs
So we put the kennel out yesterday and Dave put him in a few times for short periods. He doesn’t mind it at all and even went in last night while we were watching TV. He went right in for me this morning!
Ok, I’ll stop talking your ears off
I have to find the camera tonight!!
He is such a sweet looking boy! Congrats! I’m so excited for you!
A non barky dog? Where do I sign up for one of those?
Congrats!! What a cutie he is! I can’t believe such a great dog has been passed around so much! He definitely sounds like a keeper! Can’t wait to see more pics and hear about Mikey!

A Pez dispenser HaHa
Yes my dogs love that part of having bunnies near too, the dogs make cleaning up a breeze lol jk.
Congrats! He’s charming![]()
Congrats K & K he looks so handsome.
Congratulations, K&K & Dave & bunnies!!!!
He sounds really happy to be with you.
I hope he comes to understand that the bunnies are part of the family. (Not like deer to be chased away. In a dog’s miind, why would that be wrong? Dumb people.)
Would love to see pix of him standing next to you since I think he’s kind of short-legged, right?
i’m so excited for you!!! yay!!! thank goodness sweet mikey has a great home finally. those were some sad reasons for not keeping him. seriously. i mean i know its obviously for the best, but do people not think for a second before they adopt a pet? *sigh* anyways… i’m glad he also thinks bunny bb’s are a delicacy… it sure helps keeping things clean! lol. my friends think it’s absoleutely disgustin g but i really find it quite handy. keep an eye on the hay… bogart will snorf hay and then poop out a birds nest if i dont keep an eye on him. haha. prolly not terrible for him but i want to keep the hay for pinky! can’t wait to hear more about how mikey fits into your furry family ![]()
