gosh that is sure a lot of younguns
Oh and they squeak too…
Wow, I’ve never seen pics of ferrets that young. I never realized how many babies they had!
Haha it is a lot and they’re noisy!! Average litter amount for a ferret to have is like 4. Bella (one of the ferrets) had 12 (one passed away) and Ivy had/has 5! It’s not uncommon for the to only have two though!
Awww I love baby ferrets! I was watching this sometimes last night so cute!
Wow that is a lot of babies! And they are so wiggly ![]()
I don’t know which is more amazing – teeny weeny baby ferrets or watching them (and hearing them) live from the UK.
So cool!
I’ve never seen baby ferrets! For some reason I wasn’t expecting them to be bald…lol
Like elongated rabbit kits…sort of. lol Squeaky Sweet! “jills” and “hobs” – how cute is that? Thanks for posting – I’ve never seen baby ferrets either.
They are so funny! I’ve never seen pics of baby ferrets.
How are they bred? The petstore ferrets all come spay/neutered right? Do you they go thru a breeder to get babies for the purpose of breeding? They’re not like rabbits where they are everywhere unaltered… What are baby ferrets like? Stores only sell adults…
Wowie! How cute is that?! I’ve never seen baby ferrets before either! I got to sneak a peek from work (minus the sound). I will have to check them out again when I am home. They are SO wiggly! I can’t wait to hear the little sounds they make!!

Haha they’re noisy and oh so cute!! Like little furry jellybeans! I’ve never seen one in real life (almost did when I went to pick up Ember, but apparently some were…ahem…let’s just say it was breeding season, lol! So we couldn’t go down there or they’d stop…), but it’s awesome watching them on the webcam!

Beka, Pet store ferrets do come spayed and neutered. They are spayed/neutered WAY to young (like 4-5 weeks old when they don’t sexually mature until they’re 8-12 months old) which can cause health problems. The babies are also taken away from their mom to soon also (6-7 weeks when they shouldn’t be weaned until 10-11 weeks) which can cause behavorial problems. I guess it’s good in some ways, because if a female is not bred while she is in heat (she doesn’t have to get pregnant, just bred) then she won’t come out of heat and could die. And we don’t have stupid people breeding them except for the mills.
If someone wants to breed ferrets they have to get mentored by a breeder and then prove that they can handle it. After that they choose a few ferrets to start off with and viola! Breeders are very careful about who they sell to though! Usually you have to have gotten a couple ferrets from a breeder(s) before that and have a few years of expierence. The UK is somewhat different. You can get ferrets cheap and I don’t believe they have mills there. Not sure though! In Canada they have no ferret breeders what so ever and it costs like $350 to get a ferret from a pet store!! When I can support myself, have my own house, and lots of time I plan on breeding ferrets on a small scale. I think Canada needs some breeder ferrets though, lol!
Baby ferrets are like…One year old kids, lol!! They basically remain that way thru their whole life! Baby ferrets take a lot of training and patience! When I got Ollie he was an older kit, but still a baby! Good for me he was an angel and behaved himself most of the time. Unlike most kits who should have a TON of energy, he didn’t seem to get the energy until later on in his life, lol!! My other two ferrets I’ve gotten when they were older, so I don’t have a lot of expierence with kits, but I know a lot about them.
Well there’s you book for the day!! And if any of you ever have any questions about ferrets feel free to ask me!
I pulled up the baby ferrets cam to show my husband last night. We were in the bunnies’ room. The baby ferrets were making LOTS of noise! Lily and Jester came running over to the where we had the laptop and they just stopped, with their ears straight up! Then Lily started running around like a crazy girl.
I didn’t have it too loud, as I didn’t want to hurt their ears. The sounds definitely grabbed their attention! It was hilarious!

I wish there were more precautions like that to ensure that only responsible breeders were breeding bunnies… :o(
So these ferret breeders, do they keep the babies until 8-12 months, then neuter/spay/de-scent them and THEN find good homes after that? Or do they sell single, unaltered ferrets and it’s up to the purchaser to do the surgeries himself?
Beka, Breeders usually choose at least 1 ferret out of the litter to keep for themselves for breeding. They keep those ferret most of their lives or if they can not be bred they find new homes aroun 8-12 months old. But the ferrets they adopt out when they are babies adopt the ferrets out at 10+ weeks of age. To adopt a kit you have to sign an agreement/contract that you will get the ferret neutered when it is sexually mature. Also when you sign EVERY breeder’s contract it states that you will not have the ferret descented. Ferrets “poof” once in a while which is terrible smelling, but it’s not often. Descenting is more of a cosmetic surgery than anything else. It’s painful and really unnessecary.
Really?! Another thing I didn’t know! I appreciate you filling me in on all of this stuff Shayna, I wasn’t aware of the descenting thing being unnecesary.
No problem :]! I love talking about furrets (if you can’t tell, lol)!
HOLY COW! I have never seen baby ferrets before, they are sooo cute! And that sound that they make reminds me of the sound that you get when you rub two balloons together…precious.
