When Cotton is doing something I like as in digging on me or lying near me I am going to try doing tooth purrs to see what will happen… If he does what I like more or what..

Has anyone else answered their buns affection with tooth purrs?

        If so what happened.

No, but I’m curious how it turns out.

I did read on Language of Lagamorphs that if you are miffed with your bunny, you can turn away slightly and rub your own face and hair. It looks to them like you’re grooming yourself and they come over. Makes me think that other bunny behaviors may seem so as well.

Yesterday when Sammy wouldn’t get in her house I hung my head and whimpered. She came over to see me. “What’s wrong?”

Yes i also read about the nose twitching thing where you copy them and they go in synch with you and then you go faster or slower. I did try and they just starred at me but not sure if anything was happening lol xx

I’ve tried to communicate with my bunnies before – but all they really seem to understand is treats and pets on the head

I’ve done that. When I’m laying on the floor next to Jersey and petting her and she’s tooth purred, I’ve also responded with tooth purr to let her know I enjoy the time too. Not reaction though, she probably thinks “You are so not a bunny, so don’t even bother”
I have seen effects of turning your back away & ‘grooming yourself’ etc. Also, once I was frustrated that Jersey ran outside and I sort of growled unintentionally. She stopped in her tracks and ran back inside!

I can’t do the tooth purr properly; I think, mine sounds more like a threat or like I’m in pain, because I can’t do it softly…. I have tried, though, with success to nudge one of my rabbits into giving me groooms: my mini rex will groom my eye brows if I ‘ask’. OK, I have never told this to anyone!

I tried turning my back on him when he did something wrong and gave him the stinkeye…. it worked.

Yep. Had great success with that one, too. LOL

I actually figured out how to do tooth purs with my buns! And they purred back! It was so interesting and I could tell they were definitely listening! Good idea BT!

My parakeet Tweekie I had him a long time ago.   He would groom my eyelids right at the eyelash.  Felt good too.  I had him for 7 years and some moron broke in and stole him.  I was so upset. Stole my graduation ring too.

Sir Thumps a lot will groom my eyebrows and my bangs if I “ask” although it just kind of feels like he is pulling out my hair and it looks like he eats it….>.<

I’m sorry about Tweekie and I hope they are taking care of him.

let us know if it works, bunnytowne!

Yea I too have tried the nose twitching, I just don’t seem to get a reaction. I also tried the tooth purr when Fern was grooming me, I am not sure if that worked either. She understands when I reach my hand into her pen, she runs to it.

Also I wonder if over time Fern will learn what the word lettuce means, I say it every time I give her her greens.

I am almost certain that she will. I read somewhere that they can learn their names so I can’t see why they couldn’t learn other words.

I rarely get a reaction from the nose twitching. Well other than the “What the heck is she doing” look.

I’m not even sure how to do a tooth purr. I have done the human version of a binky. It’s basically cocking you head to the one side and back really fast. Sir Thumps a lot always binkies when I do that. Bunnie just looks at me and says “Oh, so now you learn lagomorphism”

I am going to have to try that binky thing and the nose twitch thing too.   Wonder what will happen.

HAHHAHA! I just got an absolute kick out of this thread! Thank you Bunnytowne for starting it because I also do toothpurrs and I do get a response, but I figured people would think okay, “She REALLY is one of the crazy bunny ladies” and I have waited for someone else to come out of the bunny kooky closet first. Looks like there are a bunch of us crowded in there.

I have done the tooth purrs with Bunny. I think he got my point. I have tried the nose thing briefly, but I tried to lay on the floor to do it and every time he would just get up and come give me kisses or jump on my back. Haha.

I just did the tooth purs with Bunny. He is so sweet. He lays on my chest with his chin on my face so when I chatter my teeth he can feel it and we went back and fourth for awhile doing that. Hehe.

Isn’t joining a bunny forum like “coming out of the kooky closet?”

I’ve had some success with Rumball by sitting on my haunches and bowing my head down in front him like requesting a groom. He approaches me then I raise my head and can pet him. Normally, he runs from hands. I also sometimes pet Jersey using my nose or cheek.

sometimes i nuzzle max and he appreciates it, i think.

                                                  and yeah, we’re all kooky.
