Also he has a lttle meaty bump (with no hair on it) on his hind leg, It seems to be slowly growing, What’s wrong with my rabbit? Oh, and he’s als had red urine yesterday. Please tell me if there’s anything wrong with Mario,

                                                                                                         thanks, George

Hi George – Have you had a vet look at Mario? Is there blood in the urine or is it just a reddish color – reddish colored urine can be normal for rabbits. I’m not sure about the fur falling out though and suggest you have a vet look at him.

The lump sounds like it could be an abscess. You must get him to a vet ASAP. As for the fur falling out, he might just be shedding. Felony sheds from the butt up.

Welcome here George! I agree, it sounds like Mario needs to be seen by a rabbit savvy vet. Do you have a vet for him already? If not, we may be able to help you find one in your area…

He needs to see a vet asap-red urine is normal, blood does not show up in urine visably and urine is colored by plant chemicals from diet. But the bump and hair loss indicate he’s sick and needs to be seen asap

                  Hi, George,
It’s the weekend so it may be harder to find an available vet but I urge you to get an appointment as soon as possible.
Do you already have one established that you like? If not, you can go to

for a rabbit savvy vet in your area. Even if it turns out to be nothing serious, it helps to become established with a good vet.

What does the skin look like under where the hair is falling out? Is it red or itchy at all? If so, if could be mites, HOWEVER, I had the problem with my rabbits hair falling out last month. The skin was perfectly normal, but Her butt went completely bald and actually I found out that some rabbits do this when they are losing there winter coats. Some acutally go completely bald! I just brushed her every few days to help get the extra fur off and her hair grew back with her beautiful summer coat not long after.

As far the abscess on the legs, I would definitely get that checked out. And is he drinking plenty of water? sometimes the urine can look red because the normal coloring is close to it anyway. He could just need more hydration. However, i’d bring in a sample for the vet when you go in about the abscess. Let us know what you find out.

                    Michaela
