That sounds pretty good. How big and how old is DJ? What type of pellets and hay do you feed him. If he’s over 1 year of age, he should be on a timothy grass based pellet. Does he cope ok with cabbage? Cabbage can could gas so be aware of that. I’m sure he’d love the sweetness of it though!  Check the Bunny Info at top of page for more diet recommendations.

Tim hay is good. 2 cups of veg sounds good too. So at 3kg you could reduce his pellets even further. Main thing is that they are timothy based and not alfalfa as this would make him put on too much weight. Generally it sounds like DJ is being well looked after.

Well, perhap get him some timothy based pellets and give him a mix of these and the ones you use now to transfer him over onto 100% timothy feed. You can always give a few of the other as a treat. You can also wean him down to about 1/4 to 1/3 cup per day. So 1/8 twice a day (best keep the feeding routine the same or you’ll have a cranky bun on your hands!) If 3 kg is right for his breed type, then 1/4 cup should be ample, he can fill up on hay.

                        Hi,
I try to feed mine a pellet brand known for its nutrients and low fat content, so I currently use Oxbow Bunny Basics T. When I lived up north, however, in MA, I was able to use a brand called Big Red Rabbit Food. It’s just not sold in the south.

If you go up to the top of this page to the green banner and check out the Bnny Info menu, you’ll see Diet. Also, you can go to the House Rabbit Society’s website to check out more suggestions on diet.

Jersey has given you excellent advice. (And she has happy bunnies!)

I also use Oxbow Bunny Basics T. They are available at some local petstores (like Petsmart) and some vets carry them as well. If you go to the Oxbow site, there is an option to search in your area for places that carry it. The most important thing is that the pellets are timothy based and do not have any nuts, seeds, cereal pieces or corn in them. So even if you cannot locate some of the more popular brands, you should be able to find a suitable pellet in your area.
