Hi all! Sorry I haven’t been online for a few days. Son was finishing off a few high school courses on my computer and I’ve just been too beat from all the early mornings I’ve been pulling to get in front of it.

Friday morning we took Mimzy in for his new xrays and exam. The doc looked at the films we brought from the old vet and couldn’t see anything on them that particularly worried her, except for some kind of thickening at the nose. (Don’t even want to speculate what that is.) So we left bun with her and went home to wait the rest of the day for a phone call. I was in one of those moods that a telemarketer would not want to be on the other end of.

When we finally got word the doctor told us she still couldn’t find anything physically wrong with him. There is no bleeding in his sinuses or any pus that would indicate an abscess, his teeth are all in excelletn shape, no spurs and the molars are champion…she even went deep into his nose to get a new culture to send off to the lab. (Last time, the minute she put a swab up there he blew a big old goober right out at her so we didn’t get very far on that one.)

She did say it was always possible he could have a tumor that just hasn’t presented itself sufficiently to detect, but this is unlikely. Otherwise she said he looked good, but was still a little woozy upon waking up afterwards and that we could come get him at about 3 PM.

It had been a long day for her, she was not only sick herself, but I overheard someone call in a dog who’d been hit by a car that was enroute while I was waiting for her to take Mimzy that morning, (it was a nasty weather day with sleet and rain everywhere), and several other ER’s had come in while we were waiting to pick him up. They literally forgot us for about thirty minutes while we were waiting for a tech to bring him out. The hubby has no patience whatsoever and was really peevish by the time we left. I got so nervous that they were taking so long that my cursed imagination was telling me he must’ve suddenly died in the holding pen and they were drawing lots to decide who was going to tell me. (Turns out Dr. was currently in surgery and I guess they had to get her nod before he could be released to us.)

So I have my little sweetie home, even with my husband’s crazy driving he was eating the hay in his carrier and drinking water all the way back to the house. I thoroughly cleaned his pen out while he was away and made sure any trace of cleaner was gone by the time I put him back in. Still…he began sneezing again last night and even today I have heard him go through a few fits.

My vet is going to consult some radiographers online to see if she’s missing anything and we just have to wait the week now to see how the nasal culture comes back. She is hoping we just haven’t found the right antibiotic for the job. I am optimistic as this was the deep nasal, but it’s hard to just sit on my hands while my poor little boy is obviously not 100%. I wish there were more I could do.

Will be sure to let you all know how things go. I hope you all had a pleasant Earth Day and that everyone is well and happy!

Oh wow. How frustrating, but it sounds like your vet is just doing everything she can to get to the bottom of this. She sounds wonderful. Mimz is so lucky to have you. Lots of love and care for him.

I am sending “solution” vibes your way!

Its like bunny version mystery diagnosis! I really hope that Mimzy gets better soon. But it is good that this vet is knowledgeable. I too am sending solution vibes and healing vibes.

It sounds like you have really been able to rule out any major illness or physical problem causing Mimzy’s sneezing. I wouldn’t worry yourself too much about it because you have really done well in making sure that there isn’t anything wrong with him, nor has the sneezing caused him any kinds of problems. Maybe he is sneezing for attention? Actually, I really do have a bunny that does that – if I make Amelia angry or I stop petting her to pet someone else she’ll do this little snorting/sneezing fit noise until I come back to see her!

except for some kind of thickening at the nose.

My vet mentioned the possibility of scar tissue from a previous infection causing Pepper’s sneezing.  So it’s possible that Mimzy *had* an infection that did some damage, and while she got over it the tissue is still sensitive and that is why she is sneezing.

I ditto Wendyzki-one of our shelter buns had a huge amount of testing for her sneezing and it’s due to scar tissue in the nasal canal from a previous infection.
