And they say bunnies are quiet!!! Well, anyone who thinks that hasn’t met Olivia. She growls all the time: when I put her food in her cage, even just unlatching the cage gets a growl out of her. And when I pick her up it’s 3x louder. I thought she would stop this or at least do it a bit less after she got spayed but it seems she’s growling more than ever now. I think she may be intimidated because Bindi’s new cage is on the floor quite close to hers. And I eventually want to try to bond them but the poor little guy is probably terrified from hearing all of Olivia’s growling.

Have you ever heard a swan “honking”. That’s what she sounds like! It’s pretty funny, I guess, because she usually doesn’t accompany it with physical aggression.

Does anyone else have a really loud bunny?

Grace is a very loud bunny – I was just posting about her, she is blind so she startles very easily and when she does she sounds like a little bobcat! She grunts realllly loud, but she will usually follow it up with a swipe at whoever startled her

Our Gracie growls everytime she hops into our living room.  It’s quit cute because we always know when she enters the room   We’ve even heard her honk like a swan…and for no reason!  I’ve actually heard Gracie snore once, it was pretty funny!

Pepper growls when she’s feeling territorrial – when she goes after the broom or when she meets another bunny or small dog, or when I have the gall to try and get something from UnderTheBed, which is her private kingdom.

Jersey is a growler. Growls for various reasons, either pissed at me or impatient usually. No biggy. As to swans honking…not sure I know that sound – might do a youtube search.
How did Stormy and Olivia act toward one another?

Mimzy growls or grunts from time to time. Usually when my hand comes into his ‘safe place’. I’ve had him two years this summer.

Fiver…puh…he is MR. Growly Pants. I get oinks, grunts, growls and ear flaps when I go into his pen…doesn’t matter if I am carrying a golden carrot, he has an attitude to match it.

Pip is the only one who’s never growled at me…until recently. All three bunnies are blowing their coats and, with Mimzy being ill for the last three months and the dog living indoors and needing constant attention, Pip is starting to get surly from lack of sufficient exercise. (None of the buns get out as much as they really need to these days.) The minute my head pops up beside her pen, I get a growl. And if I put my hand in her pen, I get a lowered head and a growl. If I don’t go to work with the head rubs right away, I may want to count my fingers on the way out. 0_o

Anyone else notice that your bunny is more bad-tempered and vocal at shedding time?

Yes Cotton Boo acts different not as affectionate.   Ruby well she grunts and growls when i pet her in the wrong place.  Otherwise she just stomps off flicking her feet at me too.

Jack has the loudest growl I have EVER heard. I have heard lots of growling bunnies during the years of volunteer work at SaveABunny, and Forrest(my first bunny), Rucy, Bailey and even Vivian have grunts/growls, but NOTHING like Jack. He seriously can growl as loud as dog.

What funny though is when I tell people about a bunny growl – their first response is Bunnies growl?!! LOL!

Had a doe who used to hiss like a cat.

So it seems there are quite a few growlers. I bet they all have a unique growl. Bindi will do a soft little growl when I use my hands to remove poop or hay out of his cage. He growls and tries to nip. That’s the only time I ever hear him make a sound. Stormy will make a little squeaking sound when I try to pick him up and he doesn’t want to come out. He runs in his house and squeaks, like a little wimper.

None bunny people don’t believe me when I tell them Olivia growls! They have to see it to believe it. I should so video Olivia growling and post it. That would be funny if we all did that just to hear the different sounds.

JerseyGirl- Storm and Olivia don’t come into contact with each other. They are both very high stressed and very territorial so I really don’t think it’s a good idea. I really want to bond Olivia and Bindi but I’m so scared of her biting him. Bindi seems to be very fond of her and always sits in the corner of his cage closest to her and he is always watching her. And when she comes out for a run in the evening, he sometimes gets upset and digs at his floor. But her, I just don’t trust.

I thought same about growling videos. We should do that! Very easy for me to capture growling bunny sounds round here!

We’ve had some major ‘talkers’ at the shelter. Bunbun sort of snored when he was falling asleep-it was adorable and we had one(now let me see I can’t remember who it was…) who would chit chat happily while eating! It was adorable!

Chuck murmurs while he cleans himself. Noot talks while I pet him. Kokanee was very verbal when angry-and nothing made her more angry then Rupert-as soon as she saw him she was squawking and growling. Kahlua is very very quiet-aside from you know…stomping at four am
