I’m very excited to say that all 4 of our bunnies are now fixed!  2 came to us that way when we adopted them and the other two that were purchased from a local pet store are now fixed!  Our local vet was actually pretty reasonable as far as pricing, $420 for both, and we got the best of the best care where they were inthibated and received IV fluids during the procedures.  I guess my husband and I are just more glad that everything went very well and we still have our furry babies intact with no serious issues.

Well, needless to say they are not quite as excited as I am about this accomplisment….my reason for posting is they seem pretty upset (rightfully so) but didn’t know if anyone had any tips for making things easier for them other than the recommended metacam pain meds.  Any opinions are welcome!

Yeah! Well, just give them time to rest and heal. Spays will take longer, but just compfy bedding and lots of love, and of course as you already know – pain meds if they seem in pain - this will mostly be the females.

Arrr bless you feel like you can move forward with things now, but i am really shocked at how much it costs over with you. I Paid £66 each for spaying, and another vet was double that at £112 and i was really shocked, I suppose as vets are all private the price must vary greatly.
Mine only just done and seemed to take about a week to be totally back to normal. xx Hope they happier soon xx

That’s great to hear they came thru the surgery well! I agree, they’re going to need time to recover. Are they a bonded pair? Let them be at this point, give the meds as prescribed, check the incisions, but other than that let them heal up. It’s important they be confined for at least the first 5 days. Pain meds can give the false sense of “feeling fine” so they may try to jump around or play too much and end up injuring themselves. Keep a close eye on their intake… make sure they continue to eat and drink…

Peppa… Surgeries are not cheap in some places. I am also in Ohio and I paid $185 for the spay and everything (meds, etc…) and I was pleased with the price. Other areas have it much worse… $400 and up for one bunny. In some places tho, if you’re willing to travel just an hour or so away, you can find less expensive vets that are still very rabbit-savvy. I always recommend people call around and not just within their immediate area.

WOW That’s great to hear!! And what a great price! That’s fantastic!

After a trip to the vet, or any transgression on my part-I step up the veggies. Not enough to upset tummies, and not really in increased amounts-but more ‘rare’ veggies or fav ones-fed in smaller amounts more frequently through the day. They feel like they are getting lots of treats that way. So whatever veggies are their favs, or fav treats (For special days I give frozen raspberries, banana or papaya) -these generally get me forgiven
