Little-Bit has never been a nudgy bunny. It’s rare that she thrusts her nose up under my hand for a rub. Instead, whenever she wants to be groomed, she just lays down and lowers her head. “Yes, you may groom me now..”

But Little-Bit has another communication that I’m not entirely sure what to make of. She’s always done it; she doesn’t nudge me, she ‘noses’ me. Especially when she’s explorative, playful, or greeting me. She just comes up and like…taps me with her nose, head-on. Repetitively. And in different areas. Like she’s saying “HI! HI! HI HI HI!”. And sometimes she does it REALLY hard. Enough to actually move my apendages if they are dangling. (How does that not hurt that soft little nose!?) But they’re just quick litte taps.

It’s definitely not her version of ‘groom me’. She’s often far too preoccupied with exploring or energy during these ‘nosings’ to even consider being groomed. I almost feel like it’s an other way for her to further establish that this giant object called mommy is actually physically present, like an add-on to whiskers or something.

I don’t know. Binkles never did it.

Anyone had experience with ‘nosing’ ?

          Yep.  *nose-bonk*.

With Pepper I can usually tell what she means by it by context.  If I’m sitting somewhere and she happens by she will *bonk* and then go on her way.  That seems to be like when you pass a friend on the street and say “hey” and wave and then go on by.

If she comes up to me and bonks a couple of times it’s usually “HEY!  Pay attention to ME!!” and means she wants pets, treats, or some kind of acknowledgment.

If I’m sitting on the floor and she thinks some part of me is in her way, a bonk means “Hey – MOVE IT!”.  I get a couple of bonks, and then if I don’t move she will tug at my clothes to make sure I ‘get it’.  If I’m STILL too dense to defer to her whims, I get a hard nip to make sure I’m paying attention.

My brand new baby bunny does it a lot, actually! I don’t think he wants pets, because he’s usually too busy for them anyway. He enjoys them when we initiate, but I don’t think he’s demanding them yet. The nose bump just seems like his way of saying hi. He especially does it if I stick my hand in his cage. He’ll come up and do a quick little nose bump on my finger as if he’s saying “hi! what’s up?”.

We call those “nose pokes”, and Curly Sue is a champion nose poker. With her it is usually the “move it” variety, where she tried to get you to get out of her way, or if you reach over to pet her and she is not in the mood, she will poke your hand out of the way to tell you to move along.

                Max is a major nose-tap/boink/bump/poker… :o)

I’ve tried to determine what it means. He will sit next to my leg (esp. if I’m on the computer) and bump it repeatedly (Several times in a row, 7 or 8 bumps sometimes.) If I reach down to pet, he will bolt, so I don’t think he’s seeking pets. I think it’s more of a “hey what’s this thing here?!” exploratory bump…

Ruby does that A LOT. When I go lie down with her in the bathroom she comes out bumping me all down my side.  To my legs to move them sometimes.  When I go to pet her she runs thumps flicks off.

When I just pass by in there she runs up bumps and I say Hi back. If i pet her again she runs off.

She has quite an attitude I noticed.  Thumps a lot and flicks her feet at  me when I let her of her house to play.  Crazy girl.

Can’t quite figure her out  and I have had her for 10 months now.

Yep – sounds like ‘move it or lose it!’ and ‘hey – you’re not petting me!’

Lily does it to me only when I am inside of her pen cleaning or tidying up.  She loves a messy pen!  I think it’s like a, “Hey, I like everything where it’s at, don’t mess with it!!” hehe

Felony does the “ninja bunny nose butt” as I like to call it. He’ll come running full speed out of god knows where and head butt my ankles. He’s a nut job.
