Yesterday I picked up my new bunny, Otto! I’m so so excited to have him and he’s absolutely adorable.  He’s only 8 weeks old, so he doesn’t fuss at all when I pick him up or hold him. And he loves to lie down with his little feet stuck out to the side. He was even lying like this in the carrier on the way to and from the vet’s this morning; he didn’t seem worried at all. He’s really into his toys too, and loves pushing a ball around and chewing on a willow stick. He had a plush bunny, but he kept gnawing on it so I took it away in case he was eating it

His only issue is that he’s very very cautious about new floor surfaces. At first he wouldn’t leave his litter box (for 2 hours) because he didn’t like the slippery plastic floor on the cage. I put some fleece down for him and now he’s happy as a clam running around, but he won’t get up on the shelf at all.

It’s also pretty high jump to get out of the cage and he’s not going to figure out how to get out for a while (I tried to position lower things that he could easily jump on top of, but he’s not interesting in jumping on anything right now), so I picked him up and set him inside the play area and he was so not interested in running around. He just plants his back feet and stretches out as far as he can without moving them to check out what’s around him  It’s so cute. I feel a little bad that he doesn’t enjoy time out of his cage, but I’m sure he’ll figure it out eventually. He enjoys running back and forth in his cage and doing little baby binkies for now

Here’s where I set him outside his cage and he just sat really still. Haha. He really didn’t want to venture off of the sea grass mat and onto the white vinyl mat.

Here’s a picture of my cage set up. Eventually I hope to remove the pen and use it to block off the dining room and kitchen, so he can run around both rooms. For now he won’t even venture into the pen  so we’ll see how long it takes him to explore. He’d better get over his fear of slippery floors because we have a lot of hard wood and there are only so many rugs we can put down. He does seem to like living near the sliding door because he’s getting a nice breeze today.

What a lucky bunny! That’s an awesome cage! Congrats, he’s so cute! Don’t worry, he will get the hang of everything soon enough. It’s still new. I think what some other “hardwood floor people” did was have rugs everywhere to get them used to the house and then start to take them away one by one until they are okay without them.

Yeah, we bought a few cheap rugs already at Bed Bath and Beyond; and he really likes the fleece in his cage (hasn’t peed on it yet either). And I really like the vinyl mat because it’s waterproof, but still has traction, so he should get used to that pretty fast. It was so cute to watch his feet go every which direction when I first put him on the slippery cage floor. He kind of stuck his back feet out to the side, then pushed himself, butt first, using his front feet  He was obviously uncomfortable, but I couldn’t help laughing like crazy.

I got the pen off of Petco.com. I saved about $20 over getting it in the store because they had a really good deal going. I love that it has a door so I can get in and out. It would be even better with 2 doors, so I could go straight through to get to the porch on the other side. Kind of annoying sucking my tummy in and skirting around the edge. And in the future it will be a great baby gate since the doorway to the dining room is at least 10 feet and a normal baby gate wouldn’t cut it.

Otto is so cute- I love that a lot of his black is in big spots (like a cow) instead on small spots or freckles.  I have always been partial to big bloctches of black on white pets!  Not that there is anything wrong with small spots- my white and black Mini Lop has small spots.

I love his big spots too! I looove spotted animals, but usually ones with lots of color and not too much white, so I think he’s perfect. Shhh, don’t tell him, but I was hoping for a brown and white bunny like Archie. Haha. But now that I have my little moo-cow bunny, I wouldn’t have picked a different one. My favorite is how his nose has a big lopsided spot  And the woman I got him from said her kids called him the Mask Bunny because he has spots right over his eyes.

OMG he is the cutest little thing!! Petsmart has some really great fences/playpens too! So handy for blocking access to anything liable to be chewed up. Yay for new baby buns and their quirks!

Congratulations at last!!! Seems you’ve been planning and setting things up for so long – and now finally the bunny! OTTO is CUTE!
Looks like a baby Max or Fern or Schroeder…. Having him cautious and sticking to a small area is a blessing really. It’ll help with his litter training, and when he does get adventurous, you’ll be pulling your hair out (and laughing at him at the same time!)

Jersey, he’s already a bit more adventurous. Last night he figured out how to come out of his cage all by himself. Yay! But he chews everything, so there’s no way I’m letting him near my furniture any time soon. I was cleaning out his cage a bit and he was on the ground next to me and he would not stop trying to chew on my jeans. Naughty bunny.

He has been using his litter box! There are stray poops and even some stray cecals (he stepped in them … and he’s still mad at me for holding him down and cleaning it off of his feet). But all of the pee has stayed in his litter box! Well, except the time he peed on fiance … lol.

Aw Otto is adorable! I love that first pic of him! I imagine Gracie looked a bit like him when she was a baby. Love the setup! Might have to “steal” it for our setup with our foster bun. :oD
