Hello everybody and a good Spring I do to you. As you know, it is spring time and flowers and trees are all blooming berries. Well it turns out that I have a tree in my back yard called a Mulberry-Tree. It is currently giving us and some birds a very bountiful harvest. My family and I don’t eat them very quickly and so they go bad. I was wondering if any of you binky bunny users have had experience with mulberry trees and know if they are good for bunnies to eat. If they are then it would greatly help us make sure no food went to waste by giving him freshly harvested Mulberries from our tree. If you don’t have any experience then just give your best opinion. My current opinion on this subject matter is that they are okay. I wanted some users’ opinions to set me staright before I give my bunny any of the deliciously sweet berries.

i don’t see anything that says they are NOT okay, but you should probably treat them like other fruits and treats – only give sparingly to avoid throwing the gut flora off or ending up with a pudgy rabbit.

I wonder if you can dry them?

OH wow mulberries.  Yum yum.    You can make jam with them too..   Stick a bunch in a pot and boil boil boil til the water evaporates and it gets thick.   Then of course refrigerate.   If you have those mason jars you can put them in there right away and put the lid on.   As the jam cools off it makes a seal in there.

            Ummm I want some

I have a huge mulberry tree right next to my driveway. The tiny yellow finches pass through this area just as they mature and devour all the berries within a couple of weeks and continue on their journey. It’s cool to hear them out there with their tiny little weeps and whistles, but boy you don’t want to leave your car outside. That purple poop will NOT come off easily! And if the doves and big grackles eat them too, it’s a purple mess everywhere.

Since my tree is very tall, a bunch of birds will eat the very ripe ones at the top. And I gave my bun some and he seems to LOVE them!

I haven’t heard anything about mulberries before – so I would proceed with them very carefully. If he does seem to do well with them, then I agree with wendy to be careful to only give one or two here and there because they contain a lot of sugar. Mulberry jam sounds really good too I used to make jam from guavas, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be!

My dad thought that MUlberry Jam would be delicious…. He just isn’t looking forward to picking the mulberries.

I also don’t know much about mulberries even after doing a search to answer this question. I thought we had talked about this once before in the forum, yet the search came up empty. I will have to ask my vet!

My arms get itchy from mulberries leaves.  At my physical therapist there is a big mulberry tree by the office. We have been eating them. Practically got all the black ones off.  Umm so sweet.

Perhaps your dad can shake the tree and pick the ripes ones off the ground.  OH yes that jam sounds soooo good.

by the way I have given my buns mullberries.  i figured if they can eat blackberries they can eat those too.  They loved them.
