I took shamrock to the vet today because she wasn’t acting like her self. She is very anemic and the vet sent the rest of the blood work to the lab and said he would call me tomorrow. Depending on what the bloodwork shows tomorrow we might do x-rays.  Her temp. is also low so i’m just trying to keep her warm and make sure she has all the food she wants. The vet said it could just be a disease where i would have to give her meds everyday (hoping it’s just that), or internal bleeding maybe a tumor. There is no way she got into anything and it is highly unlikely that she experianced any trauma. Now is the hard part waiting and praying.

I’m so sorry she isn’t doing well. I know how hard it is to wait for news – here’s keeping my fingers crossed that it’s good news and worth the wait.

shamrock has a very high white blood cell count which is why she is anemic now we have to find the cause of the high count. She is eating somewhat and drinking which is good.

(((Shamrock))) I know you haven’t had her long, so something from her past may be showing up. Hope she is ok and if anything, only has something that is easily treatable. Keep us posted.

I just got the worse news shamrock’s liver and kidneys are shutting down. The vet thinks that she might have had a tumor the broke open and caused her to bleed internaly. Gizmo knows she is sick he pushed the food bowl and the littler box over to her cube that she is hiding in like he was trying to make it easier to get to. I’ve heard that i should leave the body with gizmo after she passes is that true? I’m scared for gizmo becuase he loved her so much i don’t want him to make himselve sick from grieving

So sorry to hear about your little Shamrock. That is so sweet that Gizmo is trying to help out!! I have always allowed my other animals (dogs, cats, buns and other little critters) the oportunity to say their good-byes either before or after the sick one passes, depending on the relationship shared between them. I think it’s extremely important in allowing them to have the opportunity to understand at whatever level it may be!! My thoughts are with you and youir buns during this hard time!!

she is not in pain so i’m just going to let her pass at home where gizmo can be by her side, i don’t think she’ll last the night she isn’t doing good

I’m sorry to hear about your bunny Shamrock. Gizmo sounds like a sweetie and he’ll take good care of her until she passes.

I am so sorry to hear about Shamrock. The vet said there is nothing to be done? Did the vet recommend you take her back home, or did he recommend you consider putting her to sleep? I know this must be hard for you, just try to spend some time comforting her, it sounds like Gizmo is making sure that she is not alone. It sounds like you have done everything that you can and I’m so sorry to hear that you may be losing her.

I am so sorry to hear that Shamrock is critically ill.  I think that BinkyBunny mentioned her vet recommended keeping the deceased mate with the other bunny until they realize what has happened. I think she mentioned that it took Jack about an hour to really figure out the Rucy was gone.

shamrock passed around 4pm today. poor gizmo was so sad he was very protective of her body and it took him awhile to realize that she wouldn’t wake up he kept trying to nudge her. i feel so bad for him. At least he is eating and he doesn’t seem to depressed. there was nothing that we could do for but make her comfortable and be with her so she knows she was loved.

aaww, I am so very sorry to hear of Shamrock’s passing. I know it is so distressing to lose a beloved pet and especially to watch Gizmo grieve for his friend. I’ve lit a candle in Shamrock’s name to help light his way to the Rainbow Bridge.

oh mkeene10, I am so sorry! How heartbreaking. I am glad you left her body with him because though it is absolutely so so very difficult to watch them realiize (oh gack, I’m getting choked up just thinking about) that their buddy has passed, it is supposed to help them understand, otherwise they may end up looking for their buddy and make it difficult to find a new buddy if they think their mate would come back.

I think watching them realize their bonded mate has passed is soooo hard!! I couldn’t stop crying watching Jack go through this. He would do the some of the same things Gizmo did – nudging her, trying to get her “wake up”, he even thought to try and mount her but didn’t even get halfway on her before he sniffed her, got wide eyed, sniffed her in a confused sort of way and then backed off, that was then he realized for sure and after that he wouldn’t go near her. He was in the blues from that point on – The vet said when he realized she was gone, he would stop trying to do that, and then wouldn’t go near her and that’s what happened in Jack’s case. It is no fun! But it is for the best to allow it to happen.

So just be sure to give Gizmo lots of love and watch and make sure he is eating and pooping as well. Sometimes this can slow-down a bit with the bonded mate that is left behind. Jack would be fine if we would sit with him and pet him, it would stimulate his appetite. But for two weeks, if we left, he would nibble but he wouldn’t eat like normal.

I know it’s hard to lose them, but I am glad she passed in your loving arms.

Oh, I’m sad to hear this. She went so quickly. My condolences to you mkeene. This sounds like something she may have succumbed to at some point, so it’s a blessing she had a home with you and wasn’t still out on the street. Likely she wouldn’t have survived as long as she did.
Now she can keep Dudley company and Gizmo may find comfort with Karma.

I’m so sorry! How sad, and I agree, I can’t imagine having to watch one of my pair have to “figure out” the other one is gone. It’s amazing the way they form such strong bonds to their mates.

I am so sorry that Shamrock has crossed the bridge, but at least she was with you. She felt that love all the way across the rainbow.

We had a German shepherd who had a tumor something like what you described. We didn’t even know she was ill until it was too late. It was a very sad day when she passed.

I think you did the best thing, though it’s hard on you, to bring her home to pass with her friend at her side. That will make things easier for Gizmo-he’ll understand and greive easier. And that’s more comfortable for her-in her cozy home surrounded by those who love her. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to go. *HUGS*
