The fur on Bamber’s head has turned black in a crooked, bent line. He has agouti fur, so I think he’s losing hair, as opposed to his fur just changing color.

Excuse the picture quality, I took it with my phone. Can you see that line that started around his nose and goes over his left eye?

Well, that wasn’t there before, and I want to know how that could have happened. It seems strange for him to lose fur all in one connected line. He also has a small line like that on his ear, but that was there before this one appeared.

        Any theories?

Looks like he is molting which is when they shed

I think it’s moulting as well. It can sometimes make strange patterns.

Do rabbits ever just shed in such a small area? He’s not shedding anywhere else, if that is indeed what is causing the discoloration.

Maybe he’s just beginning to shed and he started on the head? When Mr. Bunny was shedding recently, he started in 2 places right above his back legs, but then it moved across the rest of him…

                  Oh that makes sense.

My first rabbit was all white, so I had no idea how an agouti rabbit looks when he sheds.

                  Thanks everyone!

I think it may be more more obvious in an agouti – the shed line. My new rabbit Rumball is agouti and he has 3 dark lines like that over his nose and some about on his body. You’ll probably watch the line move over Bamber in the coming weeks! The agouti fur has several colours in it so maybe that’s why it’s so visible to see the line.

Fiver does this all the time. Funny little creases of shedding fur on his nose. He’s a mini rex, but that’s where I first see signs of this kind of molting. His back is the worst now…a big patch of clumpy, too long, too short fur…I don’t want to take pix because it looks like he’s got the mange.

I agree. Bamber is probably just molting. You may not even notice exactly when it grows back in. Seems like my bunnies’ fur normalizes and then, wham! Another shed hits the fan. ^_^

Probably the start of molting…YEAH it’s that time of year again

                          MM,
Please take pix of Fiver. I think it’s helpful to see what a normal shed looks like in other bunnies. It’s less stressful when you see your own looking so strange.

I’m still waiting for Sammy to shed. This past week I have found larger clumps of fuzz in the corners of her cage, but no visible changes on Herself. She won’t let me brush her of course, but she’s so smooooooooth that she never seems to need brushing anyway. I think it could be starting.

I have a grey chinchila colored bunny, and his molts are the same way. His fur pattern is always changing, even when he isn’t going through a bit molt.

It’s possible tat a bunny could shed in one area as does mine. He sheds in the rear end.

Yep!!  Just look in the “Life is  Bunny” Gallery with the shed on the head shaped like the back of rabbit!    I think it’s the 3rd and 4th image.
