She gives her 2 carrots (kinda big!!) three lettuce leave (romain) a lot of spinach and sometimes celery and sometimes apple. and she is getting fat I am scared 4 her health HELP.

The most important thing in a bunny diet is grass hay, such as timothy hay. A bunny should have about 95% of their food intake in grass hays. My bunnies always have grass hay available in their cage. Next, my bunnies get 1 tablespoon of a timothy based pellet in the morning and at night. You can get timothy based pellets at Petsmart (look for the “Oxbow” brand, and it is called Bunny Basics T). Next, as a treat my bunnies get one half of a baby carrot (probably about 1 tablespoon of carrot) per day and that is it. The final thing they get is about 2 cups of a green leafy vegetable. In this case, the romaine lettuce would work for that.

The 2 carrots, and the apple should definitely be cut out of the bunny’s diet, it is WAY to much sugar for one day.

Well she gets hay anitime. I 4got to say that and she gets 1/4 a cup of pellets later in the day.

Oh good, I am glad to hear she has hay all the time. 1/4 cup of pellets is also a good amount, it could be reduced but I’d say that taking the apple and carrot out of the bunnies diet (except for a small piece of carrot) would be the best change to make for your bunny’s health.

Oh, and by the way, don’t feel stupid for asking thats what we are here for!

There’s no need to feel stupid – you want to know.

that said, you need to talk with your mom about your bunny’s diet.  The apple and carrot are too much sugar for her, and can not only make her fat but excess sugar can throw off her gut bacteria and give her “poopy-butt”, which is not only messy but can lead to serious digestive problems.

Adult buns get as much hay and water as they want, no more than 1/4 cup of pellets per day (I split that into two sessions) and a “salad” of mixed greens.  Pepper gets a “big handful” on a dessert plate.

No need to feel stupid! Tell your mom too many veggies like apple and carrot will make her fat and could throw off her stomach. Mostly green veggies are best like the lettuce. Spinach should be a treat because it’s high in calcium. The best veggies are romaine, parsley and other lettuces(not iceburg though!).
Does she eat lots of hay?

Maybe you could prepare Willows morning food the night before and pop it in a container. Then your Mom can just open that & give just that to her. If your mom understands that the sugar can lead to health issues, leading to vet visit, leading to vet BILL – she might think twice about giving her so much. Is it because your Mom is there with her during the day alot and she gives into bunny begging? It’s easy to do! Maybe you can get her to give something healthier when/if Willow begs, like another leaf of romaine, some herbs or some dried willow leaves.

Don’t forget about yummies like parsley & cilantro – they are fairly cheep & bunnies love them!

My buns are also happy to get these as a “treats” during the day.

It sounds like you’re doing the wise thing for your bunny. You are concerned about her diet and plan to see to it that she gets healthy care.
I think in the long run your Mom will be pleased to see you being responsible for Willow and that it leads to her good health.

Just give your Mom extra kisses this mother’s day.

I would just tell your mom that you want to take over because you want to be responsible for her care too! Showing responsibility is huge to a mom! Good feeding is SUPER SUPER important, so I think you made a great decision!
