Get to the vet ASAP. Our Wrigley had the same thing, dragging foot, short periods of out of balance. ER vet said he pulled a muscle in his leg because for the hour he was at the vet, he never lost his balance. 24 hour later, 90% lose of balance.

Depending on what you vet says, I would push to at least get Inkblot on Baytril. He may have a inner ear infection which is slowly getting worse which is what Wrigley had.

My first thought was that her illness is starting to affect her motor skills. I’m so sorry for you and for Ink Blot. I’m all for doing what I can to save my animals but if I were in your shoes I would seriously consider helping her cross the bridge before she gets worse. Quality of life is very important and you already mentioned that she scratches at the tumor. With the way that’s bugging her, the deterioration of the motor skills and the questionable prognosis…it just seems like the kindest thing to do. I know how hard it is to make a choice like that, I just had to do it for a bunny I saved from a cardboard box on a table at Petco. Though my choice to help Thumper cross the bridge had more to do with my financial situation than my willingness to nurse her through an extreme surgery I was still relieved for her that she’s not suffering.

I wish you much luck in whatever course of action you choose to take. Just know that if the ending isn’t a happy one we’re all here for you. This is a tight knit little family and we’ll see you through.

The fact that this happens so frequently is concerning to me. Have you mentioned it to the vet even though you can’t really show the vet? To me it sounds like some type of neurological issue, but I’m not very familiar with those so I couldn’t be sure. My other thought is that maybe sometime when she was scratching her cone she accidentally pulled a muscle or something in her leg. Either way, I think it would be best to talk to your vet since he or she would be better able to help you.

I agree that it sounds like it may be caused by her cancer. It’s hard to tell from your description and since everything is “interconnected” up there, it’s very likely that is the cause. I wonder if you should begin to reign her in a bit with limited space, nothing to jump up onto, soft bedding, blankets, almost treat her a little like a head tilt bunny. She could begin losing her balance and fall and hurt herself. Or when the leg episode happens, like you said, she is running into things. A secondary injury is going to be a big concern now.

I am so sorry you and Inkblot are going through this.  It is hard to see your beloved fur child go through this with the cancer and now being off balance at times.
