Okay, no, not another rabbit. Instead I bought the big bag of Oxbow! I’m tired of paying $2.50 a pound! But I don’t want to settle for less for my dear rabbits. So I bought the 50lb bag for $50 (plus tax)! I’m going to break it up into smaller, airtight containers so it stays fresh, and some of it is going to my mom and her rabbits. It was funny at the feed store though; I buy the stuff, and walk out to the barn with my receipt and the guy brings out a box and we put it in the car. Well I opened it to make sure it was the right stuff and it’s hay! I was kind of confused, because while I know Oxbow is good, I don’t want to pay $50 for a box of hay! For $50 it better be some fountain of youth stuff, or have little flecks of gold in it! (haha, golden flecked bunny poops) So I lug it back in and it’s all put to rights and I have my nice 50lb bag of pellets.

That’s a lot of Oxbow! I agree, it gets expensive… but them little furballs are worth it! ;o)

I’ve been feeding my guys Purina pellets. Any opinions on those?

I’ve never heard of the purina ones…

EDITED: I did a search for the purina and this is the page I came up with, is this the brand you use?  Every food listed on this page is an alfalfa-based pellet.  Unless you feed a different type of Purina that is not shown?

EDITED AGAIN:  Lol… it might help if I post the link…

Yeah, that would be the big problem with Purina, as with most brands. Alfalfa is good for about the first year, but after that an adult rabbit should be eating a timothy based pellet. Those large bulk bags tend to be geared towards breeders, and most breeders I know don’t have many rabbits over a year old anyways. Plus breeding females typically benefit from the alfalfa. It certainly isn’t the worst pellet out there, not by a long shot. It’s not full of seeds or other non-rabbit foods. If you do have rabbits over a year, with poopy butt, or overweight, you can always look and see what else your petstore has.
