Mimzy is convincing me the answer to this question is a resounding “NO!”

No matter what I have tried: Cuddl-e Cups, Carefresh bedding, straw, sisal and plush mats…even those beautiful 40 Winks Mattresses that I imported from the UK for Fiver (and that Pip uses now too) Mimzy will not tolerate any of it. He either pushes it out of the way, digs furiously at it and bites on it, or tries to flip in over out of his way. (He DOES however, enjoy sitting on my nice, soft bed and peeing on it to let me know it is now ‘his’.)

I am constantly worried about his little toes. He has callouses on a few of them that look terrible to me, but he zooms around like any other healthy bunny. I keep his cage meticulously clean, but if he goes outdoors this year, what might he pick up from the ground through any broken skin on his feet? 0_o

He seems happy and healthy for the most part without bedding. Does anyone else have a contrary bunny like this? Do I need to worry?

          Yes.
          Who knows?

Both my bunnies prefer the flat plastic cage bottom to any other cage surface. And Spockie had the sore feet that calloused. I think once his feet heal over they’re probably fine unless they get newly irritated.

Rabbits are just weird. Stop worrying. They’ll think of something new for you to worry about soon enough.

My bunnies do the same quite often – I think it might have something to do with the harder surfaces like plastic and tile being cooler than the softer surfaces. What I did was carpet the bunny’s cages, and then put a big 12″ by 12″ in two corners of the cages. Then, when they are walking around they are walking on the nice soft surface, but if they want too cool down they can go lay on the tile. It seems to work pretty well, and its fun to see them loafing on their little tiles

I remember you saying that it can get warm in your house…???… If that is the case then I can understand if your bunny tries to seek out a cooler surface. Jack will do this during our summer months.

I did try getting tiles for Mimzy to lay on, but he tries to toss those too. >_< And it's funny how the other two seem to be more furry than he is, but they don't have any interest in being on the floors of their pens.

Ah well…realized long ago Mimzy is my contrary bun. ^_^ And at least he’s easy to clean up after!

Pepper really doesn’t care much for any kind of “bedding” – she seems to lie equally on bare floor, low-pile rugs and throw rugs.  She has one rug that she favors, but I think it’s the location (at the crossways of a hall) than the finish.  She sleeps under my bed on a hardwood floor by choice.  When it’s warm she seems to like the kitchen tile floor – I guess the tile feels nice on her tummy.

Sophie will move everything out of the way to lay on the flat, plastic bottom of her house (I refuse to call a 2′ x 2′, two story cage a cage!). She also prefers to lie on the carpet rather than a super soft cuddle bed when she has playtime.
