Has anyone ever set up a indoor or outdoor sand pit for their rabbits?  I have thought for a while it would make a good diggy place.  Not sure about sand though.  Thought to have the sand damp so it clumps a bit and doesn’t easily fly into the eyes.

I don’t recommend sand – talked to one of my vets about this once and their is concern with impaction if they eat it (and they probably will try) and also the sand getting into rabbits eye, nose, etc….

I’ve taken Addy to the beach a few times and he definitely loved it…I dunno if he tried eating it or not, didn’t seem to. Then again he managed to get into a bag of concrete in the basement which had me soooo freaked out, but turns out he’s fine – the little stinker gonna give me a heartattack. You could always just see how they treat sand and go from there, but I understand the health concerns.

Maybe instead of sand you can use a organic rabbit safe mulch?

Good thinking! Even dried leaves could provide some fun. I had though even pile of paper litter or shredded paper but if they pee on it the whole lots gotta go. I did see my feed store selling bales of cut up cardboard so that could be another option.  I’m thinking those childs pop up play tents could work. They have a water proof base and you can attach  tunnels to the entry. Some have windows in the roof part so you can check on them.

                  Ooh that’s a good idea!
I need to buy some play tents n_n.
Litter would be a good choice too. Yesterdays News would be easy to dig in.

I always really wanted to get a few peices of grass sod and make a little box with that in the bottom for them! Dave (the clean aholic who doesn’t like pee on the couches….) said no way..

I am planning to buy a kiddy pool this summer and fill it with peat moss, lilac leaves and clay chunks, etc… I suppose it may turn into a giant litter box, but summer here is short, so why not.

That’s a good idea! Kiddy pools are so cheap too.

I tried to create a digging box for Dylan by filling a carboard box with sawdust.  He wasn’t sure about it and in the end Pepper used it to pee in so we gave up on that idea.
