Hello! It’s great to hear they are back in the house and have freedom in your sister’s room. Great!

At first I thought it might just be molting but the fact that the skin is attached sounds like it’s been pulled out – could they be fighting?

They could also be over-grooming and pulling out due to irritations by mites etc.

Also the “rash” means it could be mites or even fleas.  If it is mites, people can get them on them, but they only cause a minor irritation and do not survive on humans. You will not be infested by them so you don’t have to worry about that.

If it is ring worm then yes, you can get it but don’t freak out!  It is very treatable with meds from your doctor,  and it will not make your hair fall out either.   Rabbit can actually get ringworm from people too, so it goes both ways.

You will have to get a vet to determine what they have first. Both are relatively easily treatable.  But f you let it go, it can get VERY bad. Once they are treated, you will have to wash their blankets and clean well to prevent reinfestation.

ringworm (a fungal infection) and some types of mites and lice can be contagious to humans.  The treatsments are so differing that you really need to get the bunnies to the vet to get a diagnosis so they can be treated and you know if you were exposed to anything possibly contagious.

I’d definitely say to get them to a vet as soon as possible-because if it is contagious to humans then you’ll know right away if you should be treated too. Keep us posted!

It ended up we had mites on us people.   It never passed to the rabbits.  So I doubt it would pass to you…  Otherwise you would know it.  They itch more at nite when the mites are moving around under the skin. 

When people get it they usually get it around their wrist back of legs torso…

You may notice the bunnies itching more at nite.  That would steer me to think it was mites.

A vet can easily treat them.   Usually a shot and return in 2weeks for the 2nd shot I believe. Some vets will give a different type of medicine. Usually the shot is the way to go.

Then all their stuff needs washing in very very hot water. Cage rugs towels sheets pillowcases and the like.   You would do this once the bunnies get their shots.  Doing this b4 returning them to their room would be the best way to go about it.

Ringworm I think it is a round circle on the sking.  

Sounds like time for the vet.

The best advice I can think of to give you is to make sure you finish all treatments. Remy had either ringworm or mites – the vet couldn’t figure it out because they could find any mites and the fungal culture came back negative! But we treated him for both, and it took one *solid* month for it to go away. Poor little guy had a large round bald spot right smack on the top of his head, and his fur was coming off with skin attached.

Just make sure you finish all treatments, otherwise whatever it is could come back. Ringworm, especially, is incredibly persistent and can stick around on furniture and rugs for months!
