i just expanded my bunnies’ NIC condo to 4 levels. it used to be only 2 levels.

should i put a litterbox on the 4th floor, or will that confuse them?

i can’t really comment on whether or not they NEED it because they have accidents now and then since they’re young (4 months) and not yet spayed. but that won’t be forever.. and hopefully their litterbox habits will improve with being fixed.

and.. oh gosh.. when i put them in their new expanded home today, Dee-dee promptly peed on the linoleum!  i think she was overly excited.

here they are relaxing on the little blanket-covered sleeping level. Dee-dee is in back, and Dora is in front.

The more litterboxes, the better the chance of success. If they ended up only using one, you could always remove the other further on down the line.

I can’t really say for sure because each bunny is different, especially when it comes to litterboxes. What I can do is share with you that my two have a three-floor condo and I have two litter boxes on the first floor which they hop down to in order to potty. I never considered putting them on any other level for several reasons: 1) The potential of tossing of litter everywhere, even with plexi-glass as a protector, 2) The odor from the litterbox being up higher, 3) My two get more exercise having to hop up and down to go potty, 4) More floor space for them to stretch out on. I added another litterbox because of territory issues with Bonsai and the tiffs it would cause and not necessarily because the cage was bigger.
