        Hi guys,

I have my bunnies housed in a cage made from NIC cubes and it is measuring 10square feet. They have access to the large kitchen all day and every second evening they are allowed in the living room also for a change of scenery. They are locked into the cage at night when we go to bed. Anyway last Saturday morning my boyfriend came down to a happy Henry hopping out of the living room to greet him and no sign of Poppy. Then all of a sudden he saw her sitting in the guinea pigs C&C cage munching away on their pellets with not a care in the world. Our first concern was for the 4 piggies but they were all fine and sitting at the other end of the cage looking fairly relaxed. There were about a hundred bunny poops all over their cage. We quickly took her out but ever since that day she has been able to get out of the cage by tugging on the door persistently with her jaws of steel until it pops out of the connectors. This is one strong bunny!!!

So yesterday i had to put my thinking cap on and come up with another solution so i made a different type of door and lastnight i heard such a racket from upstairs in my bed and went down and Poppy had loosened one side of the door. Im thinking of getting padlocks to make sure she cant get out. has anyone else had to resort to this? Cable ties dont work as she bites right through them even when they are on really tight We are going on holidays in June and i want to make sure the bunnies are not giving the pet sitters any troube…. and that she girls dont have to deal with escaping bunnies every day!!! Gosh, you would need the patience of a saint dealing with these little fur balls sometimes… Lol!

Do you know, I remember when you first posted here about bringing home a “sweet little baby dutch girl”……And I Laughed!!  Talk about a triple header, 1) a dutch 2) a girl and 3) young
Never a dull moment with a Dutch about!

Ha ha…you have good memoery jerseygirl!!! She has a split personality in so many ways….she is so gentle with Henry despite being double his size yet can be so destructive at times but at the same time she is so nervous of everything. hates kitchen sounds and is terrified of men She is a funny one…. we have tried all those clips from hardware stores and she pulls them all off or and breaks them…. !!!! When she is playing with her toys she shakes them so furiously that poor Henry often gets clocked over the head with things. We have a mat in the cage and Henry was sitting on it one day and she pulled up the end and rolled it up with him inside. the poor little fella was put in a “bunny burito” by his own wife…Lol!

I use binder clips which are cheap from any office supply store, and the clamps at the very beginning of this video,

Pause the video if you can’t see it clearly.  They are heavy duty clamps but I have never had a problem with them.  They work great.

Have you tried dog clips? You might have to have a clip on each side, far left and far right…

What a character Poppy is! Well, I’m glad the pigs weren’t scared!

                    14 gauge steel wire
                    1/4″ dowel rod
                    wire cutters
                    Pliers & needle nose pliers
                    file

Wrap the wire around the dowel to create a spring with about 1/4″ spacing as long as the door making sure you leave some length at both ends.
Spiral it on so that the cage and door are, well, spiral bound.
Use your pliers so that that the ends are lock onto the next coil like on a spiral bound note book.
Trim off the ends and file them to remove sharp edges.

Now you should have a hing stronger than a bunny.

As for locking I would use lanyard hooks, you can get 45 of them for $2.99 at Joann’s.
Start with 2 just keep adding them until Poppy cant open the door.

The binder clips are good and are actually quite strong!

That is sooo funny she tosses toys and he gets bonked in the head!
