Ok, I have gotten a bottle of liquid suspension simethicone to have on hand.  Only infant formula I could find was product called Infacol Wind drops. The simethicone content is 100mg/mL.  Dosage in articles I’ve read for rabbits recommends 1-2 mls (cc) of 20mg/ml suspension.  So I’m a little confused as to what a dosage of 100mg/ml would be – do I divide dosage by 5?  I saw that Gas-X is 20mg/0.3mL… not sure what Ovol is…  What is the suspension rate for infant formula typically in the USA?

When I put details in the drug calculator it indicates 100mg per KG so as Jersey is 2.2kg, I am assuming that I can give up to 2 mls per dose.  Just need to confirm so I know for when I need it.

Edit: Sorry, this is calculator I used:  homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rx/drugcalc.html

OK- after I got over laughing that the meds were called “Wind” drops, I looked at the math/dosage.  Is “wind” the polite Australian way of referring to gas?  Technically it’s not wind until you fart…

The drops I have here at home are a generic version and the dosing is 20mg/.3ml- and that does seem to be the common strength from what I have seen.

Most sources simplify the dosing as 1-2ml orally.  But the official dosing which my formulary states is 65-130mg orally (which the 1-2mls range falls into).  I do not have any sources that figure the dosage by weight.  So I think most owners base giving the higher end of the dose if they have a large rabbit or the rabbit seems terribly uncomfortable.  I have smaller rabbit 3- 4.5 lbs, and I have only given it when I thought one of the buns was uncomfortable, so I only gave 1 ml.

The drops that you have:  would convert from 100mg/ml and that equals to 30mg/.3ml.  So your drops ARE stronger.  I don’t know what you have to measure it- if you only have the premeasured syringe that comes with it…   But you could give .65ml to 1.3ml and that would follow the formulary dosing.

1 ml is the same amount as 1 cc.

Oh good. Thank you. I think I would err on the side of less anyway, so likely I would give just 1 ml as she’s not had it before.

On the wind thing….lol….I guess it must be an Aussie term. It’s common to say ‘the babies got wind’. Maybe it comes from our British heritage.  Kinda puts an interesting spin on those classics “Wind in the Willows” and “Gone with the Wind” doesn’t it?  As for gas, well I guess we use that term. Also “gas” usually refers to gaseous substances – not like er, petrol, which you Americans call Gas! *roll eyes*
